Review - Milani Liquif’Eye Liner

Hi Everyone!

As promised, I said I would let you guys know what I thought of the famous Milani Liquif’Eye Liner! I’ve heard so much about it from YouTubers and Bloggers alike, but because Milani isn’t readily available in Canada I haven’t gotten my hands on it until now! From what I gather, this is a drugstore brand with surprisingly good quality.

I purchased this eyeliner in Black and from the name and what I’ve seen online, has sort of a wet look when applied. I don’t know if it was the pencil I got, but I did not get the same wet look when I used it…am I supposed to dip it in water before I use it? You can see in the swatch that it has the same appearance as a standard black kohl liner.

What I loved about this product was that the eyeliner was nice and soft and really did just glide across my lid. It felt very similar to my Urban Decay eyeliner in Zero, but the main difference was that the Milani eyeliner was quite a bit more pigmented and didn’t budge as easily on me. The Urban Decay eyeliner tends to fade a bit as the work day progresses, but not the Milani one. The Milani eyeliner stays nice and just BLACK.

What I was a wee bit disappointed about was my “lack of liquif’eye” experience. I was really looking forward to it so I’m wondering if I could just have a dud of an eyeliner? The packaging also says that it’s supposed to be metallic, but it looks like a flat black to me! The Milani eyeliner is a little bit softer than the Urban Decay eyeliner I’m used to, so I have to remember not to press too hard as it can lead to a thicker line.

Final Verdict: I loved the staying power of this eyeliner so this is probably going to replace my current UD eyeliner. I love how black it is and its staying power. I think I’m going to have to get the other colours now…

April(May) 2012 Luxe Box

Hihi!

So, I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive to open my Luxe Box because of the “First In Line” issues and due to the wild variety of samples people often receive. I was not disappointed though, mainly due to one product. As other people have mentioned, April was Daffodil Month and Loose Button partnered up with the Canadian Cancer Society to make a donation on behalf of the Loose Button community which I thought was a generous thing to do. In honour of this donation, we (all?) received a daffodil pin.

In this month’s Luxe Box I received:

Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Shampoo and Conditioner

DSCF3824

Excitement Level: Ok, well silicone-free shampoo seems to be the thing now, so alright I’m on board. I guess I should feel special that I’ve been “invited” to try this product out? As for shampoo samples, I’m happy with having actual bottles with enough product in them for me to fully experience how well they will work for me.

Full Size: Both are each 375mL/$6

I Received: 50mL/$0.80 each

Fekkai Advanced Salon Technician Colour Care Shampoo &Conditioner

DSCF3831

Excitement Level: Ummm…more shampoo and conditioner? This Luxe Box isn’t exactly the most well-rounded…the only thing that really interests me about this sample is the moisture mask that is included because I do hair masks once a week.

Full Size: Shampoo/Conditioner 236mL/$28 and Moisture Mask 198g/$45

I Received: 9mL/$1.07 each and 8.6g/$1.95

Orlane Perfect Complexion Treatment Foundation in Beige 23

DSCF3830

Excitement Level: I like Orlane products and I always use makeup primers so I’m pretty excited to try this product out! This is a moisturizer as well as a full coverage foundation that’s non-greasy too. Definitely something that I would use.

Full Size: 50mL/$60

I Received: 3.5mL/$4.20

Essie Nail Polish in Pink-a-Boo

DSCF3826

DSCF3790

Excitement Level: Eeeee! Flakies! This was my first in line choice and thank goodness I got it despite me never getting an email with my password until AFTER my time slot had passed…anyway, I wanted to get this colour, but resisted because I wasn’t sure how it would look on me. This is part of Essie’s Resort 2012 Collection that I actually have the mini collection of, so I will be giving my mini Pink-a-Boo to a friend. This was of course my FAVOURITE product in the box!

Full Size: 15mL/$8

I Received: *FULL SIZE*

Total value of Luxe Box = $17.89

This is probably the lowest valued Luxe Box I’ve ever had, but I did get one product that made up for it so I’m still happy. I wonder what bag of tricks next month will bring?!

Tag–Get to Know Me!

tag get to know me

Steph over at Canadian Beauty Reviews tagged me and I thought this one seemed fun to do. Oh, and there’s some malware issue with Shabby Blogs so that’s why I had to change my layout to this nature theme. Hopefully it gets resolved soon…anyway here we go!

11 Facts About Me

1. I’m Chinese, but was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and moved to Canada when I was five.

2. What I consider to be my most ridiculous purchase to date is the limited edition Battlestar Galactica toaster that was featured on Big Bang Theory. With brokerage fees and duty, I think I paid close to $200 for a toaster that I think is so awesome because it brands your toast with a Cylon on one side and the words “FRAK OFF” on the other.

3. I love to read and I’m on Goodreads if anybody wants to be in a book club! I love reading fantasy, sci-fi, chick lit and of course the latest in young adult fantasy.

4. I went bungee-jumping in Japan when I was 14.

5. I own complete seasons of Star Trek: Voyager, The Next Generation and Family Guy.

6. I’ve been playing classical violin for 20 years.

7. My middle name in Chinese means “snowy smile” in English.

8. I’ve always wanted to have mixed children (and now I just might!)

9. I never learned how to swim…

10. I love old school computer games from the 90s like “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?”, “King’s Quest”, “Space Quest”, “Monkey Island” and “Myst”.

11. I’m petrified of planning my own wedding!

2. Do you have any siblings, if so, how many?

I have one younger sister.

10. What colour would you die your hair if it could stay that colour forever?

I love it the way it is now – black!

I know I know, I’m breaking the rules by not tagging, but if you would like to do this tag , go for it! It’s fun!

April (May) 2012 Glossybox

Hi Everyone!

What a great way to begin the month of May, but with TWO of my sample boxes arriving! I’m a peeker, so I already knew what was in my Glossybox, but I was still very excited to actually pick it up and was quite pleased with what I received.

DSCF3795

These are the items I received in April’s Glossybox:

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer

DSCF3811

Excitement Level: I have actually just purchased a brand new bottle of this stuff because my fiance and I both use it, so I guess now we can each have a bottle! I love the fact that there is SPF 15 in it and is a nice lightweight moisturizer. I would have liked to try a new brand, but this full size product will definitely get used!

Full Size: 120mL/$22.99

I Received: *FULL SIZE*

Elizabeth Grant Skin Care Shower Gel

DSCF3816

Excitement Level: Ooooh, I do love taking showers with sweet-smelling shower gel! I received this in the scent Exotic Apricot and I noticed that my shower gel did not come with a pump like some of the other scents. Mine is just a screw top cap.

Full Size: 240mL/$20.00

I Received: *FULL SIZE*

Wella Brilliance Conditioner Fine to Normal

DSCF3817

Excitement Level: This is my first time trying a Wella product as I did not receive the shampoo in the February Glossybox, but the Essie nail polish instead. What’s interesting is that there is diamond dust in this product? It’s the very last ingredient though, so I don’t think it contributes to that much to the overall product. Diamonds are the hardest material on the Mohs scale of hardness, so I don’t know how helpful it would be in my hair. I think the idea is that we are supposed to associate “brilliance of hair” with the “brilliance of a diamond”. Sounds more like marketing than science to me…I also find it a bit strange to just receive a conditioner…

Full Size: 250mL/$13.99

I Received: 30mL/$1.68

Wella Brilliance Treatment Fine to Normal

Excitement Level: I like treatments, although I’m not quite sure what to do with this one…is it a hair mask?

Full Size: 150mL/$13.99

I Received: 25mL/$2.33

Marcelle XTension Plus Mascara

DSCF3820

Excitement Level: OMG, more mascara…As much as I love Marcelle products, I think I’ll probably have to gift this one because I have way too many!

Full Size: 9mL/$12.50

I Received: *FULL SIZE*

*Bonus* Marcelle BB Cream

DSCF3812

DSCF3813

Excitement Level: This is a great product which I have raved about here and I’m glad that other people will get a chance to try the new Marcelle BB Cream!

Full Size: 45mL/$22.95

I Received: 1mL/$0.51

Total Value of Glossybox = $60.01

Another awesome Glossybox with more full size items than I had expected! I’m always just happy with one, but three feels very generous! I am a very happy customer today!

Half Moon Manicure with Glitter Stripes

Hi Everyone!

So, I thought I’d share my first attempt at a half moon manicure which unfortunately didn’t turn out quite like I had hoped, but that’s ok. I think I know what to do for next time. To create my half moons, I used some white circular stickers, but they weren’t sticky enough to curve with my nail and stick firmly done so my half moons aren’t very crisp. You can see this is quite evident on my middle finger. I thought I could distract from my mistake with some glitter stripes. Hopefully it worked…anyway, nail art is about learning too and I thought I’d share my first attempt with you all!

Palette Pandemonium!

Hello!

I thought maybe it was time to share with you my addiction to eye shadow palettes and finally recognize that I have enough colours to last me a thousand lifetimes over. It was a bit of an eye opener having them all out at the same time! So, here they look pretty harmless…

DSCF3824

Firstly, I have my Naked palette from Urban Decay that I use religiously almost everyday. This is one product I never want to use up! I’m tempted to get Naked 2 just because of the metal casing because the fabric exterior of the original gets so grubby. You can see it also attracts cat fur!

DSCF3825 DSCF3827

Secondly, is another Urban Decay palette, The Book of Shadows Vol.2 that is another one of my favourites that I can’t live without. I can still justify this palette. I don’t have a problem yet…

DSCF3835

DSCF3836

Next, is my Stila DayDream palette that I picked up over the Christmas season. This is one I justified mainly due to price ($24) and that visually it was a sight to behold. As for quality, the shadows are just okay and some of my favourite colours are in the tiniest most awkward spots on the palette!

DSCF3828

DSCF3829

These next two elf palettes I regret getting…it was one of those Winners impulse buys and I think I’ve maybe used each ONCE…

DSCF3830

DSCF3831

DSCF3832

DSCF3834

And the next three palettes from BH Cosmetics are where it all falls apart. No more justifications, it’s just craziness! It started with the 120 Color Palette which a couple of companies like Coastal Scents also have. Then came the 88 Shimmer palette and the 88 Shimmer Tropical palette…sigh…

And who can forget the mineral shimmer stacks? One is from Bella Pierre Cosmetics and the other is from Providence and Grace from etsy.

DSCF3848

So, I think I can safely say that I have every colour I would need and this doesn’t even include little single eye shadows or eye shadow quads! I’m sure I can’t be the only girl with Palette Pandemonium Syndrome! How many palettes do you guys have? Do you use all of them?
