This is one beauty box that is actually in the right season! I have actually skipped the summer one for now and may or may not post it later if anyone wants to see what I received. For now, I was actually quite pleased with what I received in my Fall 2014 Loose Button Luxe Box and didn’t want to wait too long to share with you all!
Loose Button | Fall 2014 Luxe Box
Loose Button Luxe Box | Winter 2013
Now that our Spring Luxe Boxes are about to shipped, I think it’s time for you all to know what I received in my Winter Luxe Box! It arrived around the time I moved and was promptly forgotten about as I didn’t find it particularly awesome seeing as how it was a December Luxe Box. Maybe my holiday expectations were a little too high?
Luxe Box | Fall 2013 Edition
Once again, the Loose Button Luxe Box has creeped up on me! I always forget about it because of its quarterly delivery, but the products inside are always so luxe that I get so excited when I know it’s coming! I didn’t think I’d enjoy the quarterly subscription, but I think the Luxe Box works MUCH better this way and the product selection is much more consistent than when I first signed up 2 years ago. For the Fall Luxe Box, I opted for the Shu Uemura upgrade for an extra $7 as I was just too curious about the Cleansing Oil Shampoo! The rest of the box was pretty good too so read on to find out more about it!
Loose Button Luxe Box | LOULOU Summer Edition
This summer’s Luxe Box wasn’t a surprise as we were all given the opportunity to upgrade to a variety of different boxes prior to ship out. For an extra $5, I decided to upgrade to the LOULOU edition mainly because there was going to be a Cake Beauty product that I had been wanting to try! I have a yearly subscription so while each quarter is $24, having to pay $29 for this Luxe box was quite the steal considering what I would be getting!
Spring 2013 Loose Button Luxe Box
At long last, the Spring Luxe Box is here! Again, I have seen quite the variety in products given which always used to irritate me in the original monthly format of the Luxe Boxes as I feel that since everyone pays the same price that there shouldn’t be huge price discrepancies between boxes. This season’s was a celebrity-sponsored box by CBC television personalities Steve and Chris. I hadn’t watched their show before so I had no idea what to expect!
Winter 2012 Loose Button Luxe Box
Aren’t Luxe Boxes are so much more exciting now that they make us wait for them! It’s true that patience truly does make the heart grow fonder! I liked my Fall Luxe Box, but when I saw what other girls had gotten I was less excited. For this season, I had no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I loved everything I received as well as the slightly revised packaging with all the products being contained in a silky sachet with the Loose Button logo printed on the corner.
The Fall 2012 Loose Button Luxe Box Has Arrived!
After deciding to make a sudden change to their beauty box subscription service back in May, the time has finally arrived for the very first of the now quarterly Luxe Boxes. The Loose Button website has also changed so that we each now have a “Personal Product Dashboard” showcasing the products we have received in our Luxe Boxes and tips on how best to use them. I am really impressed with the user interface and how elegant it feels to use.
The box is now fairly large and rectangular allowing for larger/more products and has the Loose Button logo emblazoned in gold on the top of the lid. The build of the box is quite similar in thickness to the Glossybox. The first thing I noticed was just how “luxe'” the unboxing felt!
May 2012 Luxe Box
Hello Hello!
This month’s Luxe Box was extra special because of a complimentary Bath and Body Box for Mother’s Day so yay for two Luxe Boxes!
In the Bath and Body Box was a Gilette Venus Razor with Olay moisture bars on each of the 5 blades (oooh!) and a sample tube of Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex so I guess there was a little bit of an Olay partnership for the month of May.
In the May 2012 Luxe Box I received:
Cargo Lash Activator Mini Duo
Excitement Level: Included in this duo is the original LashActivator mascara and LashActivator Night which is supposed to be a lash-enhancing elixir and can be used as a volumizing mascara primer. When used together, I should have longer, thicker lashes in about 2 weeks. If you’re like me, I’m not sold on products that claim to make my lashes grow longer. Unless it’s Latisse, I don’t think this product is going to work for me. I’m not opposed to trying it though, so I guess I’ll keep everyone posted if I suddenly from little Asian lashes to those of a Greek goddess.
I Received: *FULL SIZE*
Full Size: $15
Orlane Active Hydration Body Care
Excitement Level: I do like Orlane products and all I have tried so far are face products so it was nice to receive one for body. The only thing is, the sample size is perfect for a face product, but for a body moisturizer? I’m not a big person, but I definitely have more surface area to cover than what this sample will provide! Also, I’m almost scared to like this sample because the full size is so expensive!!
I Received: 7mL/$2.94
Full Size: 250mL/$105
Paco Rabanne Black XS L’Exces For Him and Her
Excitement Level: I always like trying out new scents, but unfortunately, Paco Rabanne tends to always be a little bit too strong for me which happens to again be the case with Black XS. This is no one’s fault though, the scent just isn’t for me.
I Received: FOR HER: 1.2mL/$1.78 and FOR HIM:1.2mL/$1.87
Full Size: FOR HER: 50mL/$74 and FOR HIM: 1.2mL/$78
Goldwell Dual Senses Rich Repair Shampoo and Conditioner
Excitement Level: Oh my, more shampoo and conditioner samples in my oh so favourite packaging. This s&c is for dry, damaged hair or stressed hair and promises to restore it to a healthy shine with silky smoothness. I have not heard of this brand before, so I guess that will be something to look forward to. It was also nice that I received more than one sample pack of each.
I Received: SHAMPOO: 20mL/$0.75 and CONDITIONER: 20mL/$0.85
Full Size: SHAMPOO: 750mL/$28 and CONDITIONER: 750mL/$32
Coupon Card for Panty by Post
I don’t think I will be using this because La Senza has given my enough underwear to last a couple of lifetimes! It’s a nice addition though for someone who would like to try the service.
Total Value of Luxe Box: $23.19 although the razor is at least $10, so with the Olay sample, we’re probably looking at around $35 for this month’s Luxe Box.
As a side comment, from the sample boxes over the last couple of months, I have never in my life tried so many different shampoo and conditioners! Unfortunately, I didn’t really have a favourite product in this month’s Luxe Box, everything was just sort of okay. I guess the LashActivator was probably the most interesting so we’ll see whether it works or not. I’ve seen some AMAZING Luxe boxes with nail polish *sob* but that’s alright, it’s all part of the beauty box game! Speaking of games, my fiance and I just got the full version of Diablo 3, so I’m off to play!
April(May) 2012 Luxe Box
Hihi!
So, I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive to open my Luxe Box because of the “First In Line” issues and due to the wild variety of samples people often receive. I was not disappointed though, mainly due to one product. As other people have mentioned, April was Daffodil Month and Loose Button partnered up with the Canadian Cancer Society to make a donation on behalf of the Loose Button community which I thought was a generous thing to do. In honour of this donation, we (all?) received a daffodil pin.
In this month’s Luxe Box I received:
Pantene Pro-V Aqua Light Shampoo and Conditioner
Excitement Level: Ok, well silicone-free shampoo seems to be the thing now, so alright I’m on board. I guess I should feel special that I’ve been “invited” to try this product out? As for shampoo samples, I’m happy with having actual bottles with enough product in them for me to fully experience how well they will work for me.
Full Size: Both are each 375mL/$6
I Received: 50mL/$0.80 each
Fekkai Advanced Salon Technician Colour Care Shampoo &Conditioner
Excitement Level: Ummm…more shampoo and conditioner? This Luxe Box isn’t exactly the most well-rounded…the only thing that really interests me about this sample is the moisture mask that is included because I do hair masks once a week.
Full Size: Shampoo/Conditioner 236mL/$28 and Moisture Mask 198g/$45
I Received: 9mL/$1.07 each and 8.6g/$1.95
Orlane Perfect Complexion Treatment Foundation in Beige 23
Excitement Level: I like Orlane products and I always use makeup primers so I’m pretty excited to try this product out! This is a moisturizer as well as a full coverage foundation that’s non-greasy too. Definitely something that I would use.
Full Size: 50mL/$60
I Received: 3.5mL/$4.20
Essie Nail Polish in Pink-a-Boo
Excitement Level: Eeeee! Flakies! This was my first in line choice and thank goodness I got it despite me never getting an email with my password until AFTER my time slot had passed…anyway, I wanted to get this colour, but resisted because I wasn’t sure how it would look on me. This is part of Essie’s Resort 2012 Collection that I actually have the mini collection of, so I will be giving my mini Pink-a-Boo to a friend. This was of course my FAVOURITE product in the box!
Full Size: 15mL/$8
I Received: *FULL SIZE*
Total value of Luxe Box = $17.89
This is probably the lowest valued Luxe Box I’ve ever had, but I did get one product that made up for it so I’m still happy. I wonder what bag of tricks next month will bring?!
March 2012 Luxe Box
This month’s Luxe Box was interesting for two reasons: it was Loose Button’s one year anniversary and this month’s box included a different take on the “First In Line” (FIL) program. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that Loose Button is the first of the luxury sample boxes in Canada, followed by Glymm, Topbox and finally Glossybox (although Glossybox has been around in Europe for awhile). To commemorate their one year anniversary, this month’s Luxe Box contained a little card with seeds which I thought was very sweet and cute. It’s unfortunate that my thumbs are all but green and hopefully I will be able to find a home for these little “seedlettes” other than the trash…
This month, Loose Button’s FIL program was done on a first come, first serve basis that involved everyone logging into the Loose Button site at the same time and picking a product. I know this was done on a Sunday because most people work during the week, but I was one of those people who had to work that day, so my lovely significant other actually REMEMBERED me talking about FIL and got up on his own, figured out where to go on the site and chose a product he thought was best for me which ended up being the Cargo Glitter Top Coat.
What I found so cute were these texts that I received from him while I was at work basically showing his train of thought. Everything from “Where do I go"?” to “What’s a glitter top coat"?” to “I think you already have this eyeshadow colour” and finally, “Well, I chose the glitter top coat for you because it sounds like something you don’t have and who wants shampoo samples anyway?” So, good job Hun!
Total Value of Luxe Box: $35.64
What was in your Luxe Box?
February 2012 Luxe Box
So, this month's Luxe Box is a special one with its bright red packaging and collaboration with Flare magazine. I guess the collaboration allowed for more high end items in this month's Luxe Box? It was all very cute and I was excited as always when it arrived 4 days before the scheduled delivery date!
This month I received:
Mereadesso Beautiful Body Balm (full size 200mL for $54)
Lise Watier 24 Hours Glam Mascara (full size 8mL for $22)
Redken Color Extend (full size shampoo 300mL for $15 and conditioner 250mL for $17)
CK One Shock For Her (full size 50mL for $45 and 100mL for $65)
*Bonus* Mereadesso Face and Neck Toning Gel (full size 50mL for $120!!)
My favourite product in this month's Luxe Box has to be the rollerball CK One perfume! I almost bought it the other day at Shoppers, but I already had Prada Candy in my hands so I thought getting two perfumes at once was a little indulgent...I do love rollerballs because I can actually see myself using them up in my lifetime and they easily slip in my purse. It's a sweet, youthful scent that is described so colourfully as a "fierce bouquet of passion flower, pink peony and jeweled poppy flower and deepens with blackberry, jasmine and narcisse flower drizzled with a liquid chocolate accord with an addictive signature that finishes with magnetic ambers enveloped in vanillin and patchouli wrapped in second skin musk". Dear God, that was long...
I have yet to try any Mereadesso products so I'm glad that I will get to now, but man are they ever expensive! What I found interesting is that the woman behind this company has degrees in chemistry and botany and has used her knowledge to develop a skincare line full of sciencey goodness. When I went to the Mereadesso website, what I found nice is that next to each product is the amount of time it should last (possibly to justify the luxurious price tag!). The full size body balm should last 6 - 8 weeks and then full size toning gel should last up to 4 months.
As for the mascara, another product I have yet to try, but I seriously have soooo much mascara now!! I'm never going to be able to get through it all! Most of them are samples, but still when you have 10 sample sizes of mascara, it's still a lot! I feel like mascara is given out so frequently as bonuses! At any rate, what sets this Lise Watier mascara apart from the others is its elastic polymer formula and FlexiQueen brush. I did notice that the brush was very flexible and bouncy.
I've used Redken products in the past, so the shampoo/conditioner wasn't THAT exciting for me. It's nice that Loose Button gave three sample packs, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that despises these types of pouches! You're in the shower, your hands are wet and you'll be damned if you can get into that silly little packet! Grrr!
Mereadesso Body Balm 30mL = $8.10
Mereadesso Toning Gel 7mL = $16.80
Lise Watier Mascara 5mL = $13.75
Redken Shampoo 10mL x 3 = $1.50 Conditioner 10mL x 3 = $2.04
CK One Perfume 10mL = $6.50 (I used the 100mL size to minimize on price inflation) I also don't think this is quite accurate seeing as how in most rollerball perfumes, there is about 10mL of fragrance and the cost averages around $20 so I almost want to say that this sample is actually more like a $20 value!
Total Value of Luxe Box = $48.69 or $62.19 depending on the way you look at the CK One sample!
Either way, the value of the box was great, the perfume was really something that I loved and the Mereadesso products will be a fun indulgence :-)
January Loose Button Luxe Box
The long awaited Luxe Box is here after their change in shipping policies that everyone is very opinionated about...for me, I'm happy as long as my Luxe Box makes its way into my hands! This month was a little bit more special because there were TWO boxes: the regular black Luxe Box and oooh a pearly white Luxe Bath and Body Box that I will certainly get to in a bit.

The items I received this month were:
Curly Hair Solutions - Curl Keeper (full size 240mL for $18)
Nyx - Round Lipstick in the colour Sash (full size 4g for $4)
Nyx - Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (full size 5g for $5)
Loose Button MyScent Package - Prada Candy, Prada Infusion d'Iris, Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps, Nina Ricci Nina, Paco Rabanne Black XS for Her, Paco Rabanne Lady Million
*BONUS* Seattle's Best Coffee (full size 340g for $9.99) plus $1.00 off coupon
In the Bath and Body Box:
Schick Hydro Silk Razor (full size $13.99)
Fekkai - Shampoo and Conditioner (no full size price given)
For January's Luxe Box I was one of the one's who received a "First in Line" opportunity. Unfortunately, I was not fortunate enough to reserve a Benefit product so I was left with the Curl Keeper...for my thick, straight Asian hair...my hair does tend to get frizzy so I figured I could use the Curl Keeper for those unruly days. It's water-based and quite light in texture so my hair won't feel quite so heavy when I'm using it.
And my favourite part, I received TWO full size NYX products in colours that I love! The lipstick came in ultra chic packaging and has a beautiful frosty light pink shimmer. It's a lighter colour than I would normally choose for myself, but I know I can make it work as a nude lip...I think. Now, these infamous NYX jumbo eye pencils have been on my list for awhile and Milk is my first! The white will be great as an eye primer and swatched like butter.
Now, I know that not a lot of people were very thrilled with the MyScent package because they felt like this was just a bunch of leftovers, but I thought it was kind of cute! It also helped me to discover that I LOVE Prada Candy and I must know own it! I will wait for 20x the points day at Shoppers...do they have Prada Candy? I hope they do! I still can't believe it's $95/bottle...so expensive!
Curly Hair Solutions - 100mL = $7.50
Nyx Lipstick *full size given* = $4
Nyx Eye Pencil *full size given* = $5
MyScent Package = $12.50
Coffee - 56g = $1.65
Razor *full size given* = $13.99
Fekkai samples = based on their website using 16oz bottles ~$1.50
Luxe Box Total Value = $46.14
Two boxes this month was a nice surprise and I was pretty happy with my Luxe Box. I was needing a new razor so the Schick one was more than welcome! Even my bf was a big fan of this month's Luxe Box because he ran out of coffee and stole the Seattle's Best Coffee right of out of my box this morning! Anyway, great Luxe Box! I know I will have fun playing with my new "toys"!
December Luxe Box
Today my Luxe Box unexpectedly arrived much like my Glymm Box and I have to say that after reading such negative comments on the Loose Button FB page I was really rooting for them because I felt some of the comments were just downright rude and incredibly greedy-sounding and juvenile. One person even complained about how difficult it was to "unwrap her chocolate-covered coin"! I mean, seriously?! If I were in Loose Button customer service I would lose it. Anyway, onward to the part everyone cares about, the unboxing!
Perfumes out of the packages |
Moroccanoil - Luminous Hairspray (Full size 300mL for $24)
Moroccanoil - Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner (Full size 240mL for $22 and $21 respectively)
Paco Rabanne Perfume in Lady Million (Ladies) and 1 Million (Mens) (Full size 50mL for $80 and $58 respectively)
Yves Rocher - 24H Vitality Anti-Fatigue Skin Care (Full size 50mL for $52)
NYX - Slim Eye Pencil (Full size 1g for $4)
Moroccanoil Hairspray- 75mL = $6
Moroccanoil Shampoo and Conditioner - 240mL = $6.42 + $6.13 = $12.55
Paco Rabanne - 1.2mL = $1.92 + $1.39 = $3.31
Yves Rocher - 15mL = $15.60
NYX - $4 (Full size given!)
Total Value of Luxe Box = $41.46
So, I'm supposed to say I loved it right? You know what, the expired Moroccanoil debacle didn't make me THAT mad because it's not like it was going to harm me in any way. It's not like with food or medication where expiry dates DO matter because you can either get sick or the efficacy of medicinal ingredients decreases. And, it was a styling cream to be used on hair which is dead anyway so getting the hairspray and shampoo and conditioner set was more than a welcome surprise. All three samples were very good sizes, not like the shampoo samples that come in those plastic "rip" packets which are 2 uses at the most and so hard to open in the shower with wet hands!!
The Paco Rabanne perfume was one that I was curious about as other Luxers received it last month. I sprayed the male version on my boyfriend and to me it smelled musky, but in a more fruity way. He said it wasn't really for him though...he's used to something more manly. As for sample size, yes, these samples were half-filled (optimist!) like the Nina Ricci samples other Luxers received, but how is that Loose Button's fault? My perfumes were in a sealed package which probably means Loose Button weren't the ones filling the perfume vials... This was another rampant complaint about this month's box which I found to be a bit petty...
The NYX eye pencil, well, it's not the best one out there that's for sure. It doesn't glide on very easily and I do find that it's the type of pencil that tends to tug a little at your eyelid. There are other NYX eye pencils that do a much better job, but a basic black eyeliner will always come in handy.
I'm actually an active user of the Yves Rocher anti-fatigue line and I already own the full size version of the sample provided which I had to order online and pay shipping for so an extra tube is more than welcome. Yves Rocher things often go on sale and once you order from them, they ALWAYS give you perks so you never have to pay the full retail price.
All in all, I was actually happy with my Luxe Box. I too also expected the Morrocanoil samples to be in addition to my actual Luxe Box, but I'm not going to complain about it now. I'm pleased with everything as is and although the last 2 months of Luxe Boxes were better, I'm still going to say thank you and stick to my subscription!
November Luxe Box!
Actual bottle of Benefit Moisture Prep Toning Lotion - so cute! |
Lise Watier - Plumpissimo Le Gloss in Opalescence (full size $20)
Dermalogica - Skin Prep Scrub (full size $32)
Moroccanoil - Styling Cream (full size $32)
Benefit Cosmetics - B.Right! Moisture Prep Toning Lotion (full sizes $29)
*BONUS* Teaopia Cactus Fig Tea Kit (full size $7) with 20% off coupon
I'm a big Lise Watier fan so anything from them is more than welcome into my makeup family. I've never tried anything by Dermologica because they are pretty expensive. I was a little disappointed to see that there were all kinds of parabens in the scrub, so I'm not sure if I will actually use it...I really did love the Benefit Cosmetics toning lotion especially the ultra cute packaging and little glass bottle! In my mind, when I think of a deluxe sample, this is the presentation I think of!
Overall, I'm pretty happy and I hope December's box will make up for the expired product in this month's box. Thanks Loose Button!
