MAKEUP LOOK | Glowing with Avon True Colors with Help From Makeup Artist Joffrey Dumas

It has been a long time since I have played around with Avon's colour cosmetics on the blog and this Spring season we have some top picks from makeup artist Joffrey Dumas. I will admit that I am not the best with keeping up with who's who on the MUA scene unless you are Charlotte Tilbury or Lisa Eldridge, but after watching Joffrey in action in a couple of makeup tutorials, he seems super sweet, charming and reminds me of a sexy version of Fez from That 70's Show with his accent!

To kick off Spring, Joffrey has chosen seven must-haves that are great staples in any makeup lover's collection that work for both day or night looks and is also a great introduction to Avon's makeup if you haven't had the pleasure of trying any items yet!

I feel like I keep going for "office chic" with my recent makeup looks, as if my hair speaks for itself (a client of mine commented that my hair "matched" St. Patrick's Day), but in this case I just had to try the Matte Eye Shadow Quad in Gilded Metallics*($12.00 CDN). The shades in the palette looked incredibly cohesive and having numbers on the eyeshadows may look amateur, but they really do help!

The Gilded Metallics Palette is composed of four shimmery, neutral shades. The highlight shade (#1) barely showed up on my skin, but the other three shades were better. Though the texture of the shadows was fairly soft, I felt like they didn't "hold" their ground when it came to blending. A good swatch is one that goes all the way down my arm and unfortunately these fell a little short at least when used dry. Yes, I know you CAN use certain shadows wet for more intensity, but I think a good eyeshadow formulation should hold up best when dry.

This was my first time trying a Beyond Color Lipstick* ($12.00 CDN) with this burgundy shade being creamy and easy to work with. I also love that there is SPF in it because we always forget about protecting our lips! I know how hard it is to get SPF-approved products in Canada because of the DIN, but with 15 shades, this is definitely an option for the summer!

Avon True Color Swatches and Review

The Eyeshadow Single in Midnight Sparkler*($6.00 CDN) was a bit of a letdown when I used it dry. Though it looked pretty in the pan, it was patchy upon application. I also tried swatching this shadow wet and I still wasn't very impressed. I think a sticky primer would probably be best and then applied with a patting motion.

I adore the Perfectly Matte Lipsticks and have reviewed them before (here) so I won't say more on them other than, "you will love them!"

The Super Extend Nourishing Mascara* ($10.00 CDN) comes in black, brown and navy blue. The colour I received was navy blue which never shows on my lashes anyway and the formula was okay for my baby lashes, but not the best. It wasn't wet, so they didn't droop, but I just didn't feel like my lashes were enhanced in any way.

On the other hand, the Glimmersticks Waterproof Eyeliner in Midnight Blue* ($9.00 CDN) is an Avon bestseller and rightly so! This was actually one of the first Avon products I started using 5 years ago. I loaded up on the black because they really do have a nice glide along the skin in addition to longevity.

The Glazewear Lip Gloss in Nude* ($8.00 CDN) is your standard lip gloss formula with shimmer. It is non-sticky so longevity isn't great, but it does the job with perking up any lipstick as the finishes are fairly sheer. Before the advent of liquid lipsticks, the combination of a lipstick with a light gloss was MY JAM.
