The first thing I noticed when I started looking at Volition products was how each product seemed extremely appealing. The Snow Mushroom Water Serum immediately caught my eye because I adore mushrooms (raw and cooked) and serums are my favourite part of my skincare routine other than sheet masking. If anything, I find that these two loves of mine go hand in hand. What makes Volition different from other skincare brands is the creation of their products because YOU get to create products "of your own volition". You get to be an inventor and submit your idea through the Volition website or vote on ideas that you would love to see become a reality. Instead of a brand telling you what the next big thing should be, Volition has decided to let you come up with the idea and they will then take it to the lab to test out. Oh, and Volition products also have the Clean Beauty stamp of approval at Sephora and after looking at the ingredients of this serum and most of their other products, I am liking the ingredient choices!

I was sad when I had to stop reviewing this serum to move onto something else because it was just such a "comfort serum". It hydrates, minimizes the appearance of pores, plumps and brightens. This serum is mega hydrating without being greasy and uses snow mushroom extract (ingredient #1!) to deliver and KEEP moisture in the skin. The snow mushroom is able to hold up to 500x its weight in moisture and has long been used in Asian skincare. If you grew up in an Asian household, you have probably EATEN snow mushroom in various forms of soups and desserts. I remember eating JUST THIS in a sweetened cold soup that would apparently make my skin "clear of pimples" as a teenager. I literally remember gagging after having to ingest it for a fourth week in a row, but ingestion is FAR different than topical application!
What's also nice with using snow mushroom is that it is a natural alternative to sodium hyaluronate and is also rich in Vitamin D and scavenges free radicals (Truth in Aging, March 2019). You will also note that all of the featured ingredients are right there in the top half of the ingredients list which is AMAZING! I have put a brief description of what each ingredient does in the list below for quick reference.
Ingredients: Tremella Fuciformis (Mushroom) Extract, Propanediol, Glycerin, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sea Water (reduces shine and minimizes pores), Citrullus Vulgaris (Watermelon) Fruit Extract (Vitamin C source for brightening), Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract (Vitamin C source for brightening), Lens Esculenta (Lentil) Fruit Extract (rich in Vitamin B5 and soothes and moisturizes skin), Sodium PCA, Sodium Lactate, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Water, Pentylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, N-Prolyl Palmitoyl Tripeptide-56 Acetate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, Diheptyl Succinate, Xanthan Gum, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Sodium Carbomer, Ethylhexylglycerin
The cap and pipette twist in such a way that the amount of serum is pre-measured and MORE than enough for your face and decollete. I actually use just HALF a pump because the texture spreads like a jelly-water and just keeps on going! A little seriously goes a loooong way!
This serum is just so easy. At first when you apply it to the skin, you cannot possibly think that what feels just like water is going to quench dry patches and keep skin balanced all day, but it does! This is also a great serum for just before sheet masking or makeup because it absorbs quickly and gives skin an even "base" without feeling overwhelming it with product.
Final verdict: While I wouldn't religiously dedicate myself to this serum, because I like to experiment, this is a solid serum that moisturizes on its own while complimenting additional products. It seems to be almost a "homeostatic serum" where it adjusts itself to whatever else I am applying to my skin afterwards which is pretty incredible and would fall under my personal category of "smart skincare". I don't know how all of the ingredients work together, but it's a combination I have yet to see in any skincare I have used. What I will say with finality is that I will keep coming back to this serum whenever my skin has freaked out or when I am not actively reviewing anything else, which in my world says A LOT.
