I am all about supporting my local Canadians especially now as the pandemic continues to impact small businesses everywhere. I discovered NENA in 2019 and fell in love with their brand ethos, the fact that the products are made here in BC and feature Canadian glacial clay that is sourced in partnership with the Indigenous people of Northern BC. I have tried every single product they have made including their gel and spray hand sanitizer and everything has been impressive so you can imagine how much I squealed when I saw that a new member was joining the skincare family! There is now a brand spankin' new SERUM!

Not only does the NENA Mineral Serum contain its trademark glacial mineral clay in the form of glacial mineral water, but this powerhouse of a serum also contains hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and vitamin E! Let's not forget that the glacial mineral water itself contains over 60 minerals! Intended for use morning and night, this lightweight yet hydrating and brightening serum focuses on reducing fine lines, wrinkles and radiance. Oh, and it's only $34.99!
I had been using a fairly intense vitamin C serum prior to starting my almost 2 month journey with this new NENA serum and my skin was looking really good so I had this fear that the vitamin C aspect of the NENA serum wouldn't be potent enough to maintain what I had. I was wrong! This serum uses ascorbyl glucoside which is water soluble and though it is not as potent and direct as L-ascorbic acid, this form of vitamin C is highly stable, plays well with water-based products and has a smooth texture. A lot of vitamin C serums can be quite sticky or leave a tacky finish which is not the case at all with this serum!
Will you look at this packaging? This is glass and I always feel like I am doing a bit of ASMR whenever I pick up the bottle. I was not expecting glass packaging so this was an extra luxe quality that I thoroughly appreciated. The texture resembles a fast-absorbing gel, smells faintly like lavender and layers well with other skincare like essences and makeup.
With almost all vitamin C serums, I usually have to ease into them as I tend to get red in the cheeks if I am too enthusiastic and use it everyday, but with the NENA serum I found it effective and gentle on my skin almost instantly. I used it only in the mornings as I like to use an acid or niacinamide serum at night and for the purposes of this review to keep all factors the same, I was already using a niacinamide serum from before and did not change it while using the NENA Mineral Serum.
As a side note, while I had my crazy eye virus the last 2 weeks of March, I kept my skincare routine REALLY bare bones with no eye products for 3 weeks, but kept this serum in my morning rotation and my skin continued to stay bright and even with zero breakouts. I was super impressed!
