Blue Fishtails!

After seeing this design on Chalkboard Nails, I wanted to give it a try, but I had the hardest time choosing colours. I was torn between pinks, browns, blues or neons? In the end, I let the man choose and he chose blues, so here we are! For the base, I used an unnamed light blue mini Quo polish, then another unnamed dark blue Quo polish finally followed by Zoya – Indigo. I’m sure the Quo polishes have names when they are full-sized, so if anybody knows, feel free to comment!

I have to say, that I’m not too pleased with how this turned out mainly because I experienced more bubbling than usual once I sealed everything in with OTD. Maybe I wasn’t being careful, but it’s not the neatest topcoat application I’ve done…then again I like the colour scheme and would like to try fishtails again with some summer brights!

  1. I saw this type of manicure for the first time on Instagram and I thought they made it up when they called it fishtail nails.. now I feel silly. However, I love the concept! The blues you used are so gorgeous and I love how it's kind of a "blunt gradient".
Even with bubbles, I'd say it looks great! (I probably wouldn't even of noticed, hehe)

    1. You picked up on my gradient! Hehe, that's what I was going for. The bubbles are annoying me so much...grrr! I'm glad you like it though!!

  2. cool look. They kinda look like chevrons more then fishtails to me, but hey. could be another idea for a different nail design ;)

    1. I tried to make lines more curved to be more like a tail, but oh well! I think chevrons are straighter?

  9. I totally did similar nails a while ago (also inspired by Chalkboard nails). It was a lot harder to do the design than I thought though... did you have the same difficulties? It got so thick towards the tips because of all the layering.

    1. Umm yeah! By the end, I was struggling to get the texture even and if I made a mistake, there was only so much smoothing over I could do before the thickness of the nail polish made it too hard to work.

  11. I've been getting so much bubbling lately too (although I can't really tell on your nails), I wonder if it has something to do with the humidity in the air? Halifax has been sooo muggy! Great colours though, I love how this turned out!

    1. Thank you! You know what? I never thought about the humidity being an issue! It has been pretty muggy here too. Suffocating, really. Who knew there was so much science to nail polish? ;)

  12. This looks really pretty. It kind of looks more like a chevron to me too, but I can see how on some of your nails your lines are more curved, which I love. I wonder what it would look like if you used a fish scales stamp on the base color, it could be cute, or too fishy haha.

    1. It probably would have been easier (for me!) if I had tried to make the lines straight and just gone with a chevron shape. I kept trying to make the lines more curved which made the layers harder to work with. I think a fish scales stamp would be cute! I'm not a very good stamper so I'm not too sure how it would turn out...
