Review–Skinfood Good Afternoon Rose Lemon BB Cream

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased two Skinfood BB creams from Cosmetic Love and I have had a few questions regarding how I’ve been liking them so I thought I’d do a little review. Firstly, the two that I purchased are identical in color (Natural Beige) with the only difference being scent. I no longer have Honey Black Tea because I gave it a girlfriend of mine who had been wanting to try an Asian BB cream with SPF in it, so I will just be reviewing the Rose Lemon scent.

A hydrating and fitting BB cream that revitalizes and hydrates skin with aromatic rose and refreshing lemon extracts. Immediately releases water drops to transform skin into soft, supple texture.

Packaging: The tubes are pretty small and have 30g of product in it. Skinfood packaging is always quite cute. I love pictures of food, so food + makeup = pure awesomeness!

Scent: Like roses and lemon! Not overpowering at all. My girlfriend also quite liked the scent of honey and black tea.

Formula: I found there to be more coverage with the Skinfood BB cream than the Marcelle BB cream. Not to say that this one is better, it’s just a bit thicker. The consistency is about the same as well. The Marcelle BB cream gave me more of a dewy finish while the Skinfood one did not. As for the statement “releasing water drops to transform skin”, I didn’t notice any significant change in suppleness in my skin upon application. My skin did feel moisturized all day and the coverage stayed consistent. I do like the fact that there is SPF in this which is why I’ve really been liking this product for summer.

The shade I chose is a little bit on the light side for me, but you would never guess from the swatch on my hand which is why I think a scary “Jayne with no makeup picture” is necessary! Brace yourselves!

All I’ve added is Nars Orgasm Blush just to show that you can be “face ready” with just these two products! You can see, that my face is definitely lighter in colour once I apply the BB cream. I don’t know if this comes in any other shades, but having only two shades to choose from was a bit of a negative. A part of me suspects that because the Asian standard of beauty is to have very fair skin, having only light shades sort of makes sense. My face definitely looks brighter and my skin tone a lot more even once the BB cream has been applied so I was quite pleased about that! My cheeks tend to be red and blotchy so my foundations/BB creams are targeted to that area.

Final Verdict: I totally recommend this product IF you’re on the lighter end of the skin shade spectrum. I loved the coverage and the SPF factor not to mention how good it smelled!

And that is my first foray into Asian BB creams! Anyone else tried some good ones?

  1. The packaging is so cute! You're so gorgeous, Jayne! (Yes, without makeup too)
It looks like it works very well, I haven't tried any asian BB creams. Was it expensive?

    2. This one was $7.58 per bottle which was great. It was so cheap! Thank you for loving the scary no makeup Jayne too ;) I'm glad you like the icons! I wanted to do something nerdy!

  2. haha @"Brace Yourselves". It wasn't scary at all. The SkinFood looks like it has great coverage. For $7.58? Yes! On the Cosmetic Love site, are the $ in USD?

  3. So between SkinFood and Marcelle, which would you be more likely to use in the long term?

    1. Hmmmm...maybe the Skinfood one since I'll be whiter in the Winter? If I want a dewy glow I'd probably go for the Marcelle so I guess it depends what sort of coverage I want.

  5. BB Creams are all way too light for me but I actually don't think it's too noticeable on you. I love Skinfood's packaging... I always ogle their products when I'm in Asia.

    1. Yeah, you look a little darker than me so I can see why the Asian BB creams would be too light. The packaging is definitely my favourite part about Skinfood products. It's all so cute!

  6. Aw you still look lovely without makeup! The bb cream definitely made you look lighter and the coverage looks really nice! Too bad they only have the two shades, but it's totally understandable why they only have 2. That must be so nice to not have so many shades to choose from lol! If I want to change my foundation, I have trouble getting a good match!

  8. lol Jayne with no makeup is not scary at all! I love the finished look, though I think that this one in particular would be way too light for my skin tone!

    1. It seems that this shade is too light on most skin tones which is too bad since the coverage is pretty good...I'm glad I didn't scare you!
