Sadness Mixed with Christmas Joy

Is everyone else just as exhausted from the last couple of weeks as I am?! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Christmas celebration with their loved ones. Mine was a bit of happy and sad as we had to put down our beautiful cat Silver on Christmas Eve…he was 16 years old and I have blogged about my baby before He was sick with cancer and wasn’t eating or drinking at the end. This is my favourite picture of him as he was a bit of a jerk, but would always charm everyone with his pretty face. This is his “I love you and will destroy you” face.

To end the post on a bit of a lighter note, here is what was awaiting me under the tree! Although, much of it I purchased on my own and placed under the tree up until Christmas :) I had a wonderful time with loved ones on Christmas Day which definitely cheered me up, but I will miss my fluffy grey Persian kitty who ate everyone’s food when they weren’t watching and would use his paw to bat food out of your hands! Silver is rolling in catnip heaven now and I am just happy he isn’t in pain anymore.

  2. Aw! :( That's terrible news about Silver, but you're right, at least he's no longer suffering. I'm glad you had a lovely Christmas with your loved ones! That's the great thing about the holidays x

    1. At least I had loved ones around me to ease the pain. It was sad, but he was a cat who lived a good life so I can't be too sad about it.

  3. Oh I can so relate to this. My uncle died on Christmas ever after 3 months in the hospital. I wish you a wonderful holiday season in spite of it all!

  7. this is very sad news.
my boyfriend's mom's cat also did the same thing when he was dying - he just stopped eating and drinking...
he also used to be a bit of a jerk too. he hated playing with the other cat and when he jumped into your lap, he just liked to sit there and dig his claws into you. :/
i'm so sorry about your loss Jayne.

    1. Animals just withdraw and when I saw what he looked like just before they put him down, he looked so old and tired...it was the best thing for him. Thank you Helen for your sweet words!

    1. Aww, thank you. He was a jerk of a cat, but had personality and I'm happy he was able to live out a good cat life with me.

  9. OMG I just saw this post! So sorry Jayne. I know how much pets become like children to us. It is hard to watch them be sick. If anything happened to Pepper I would lose my fricken mind.
Silver was a cutey (reminds me of Dr.Evil's kitty LOL). I had to laugh at your last reply - jerk of a cat HAHA It sounds like me talking about Dumdum the Stinkybumbum (Pepper).

    1. How old is Pepper?
Yes, Silver was the typical evil sidekick. He was grumpy, ate other people's food and I'm sure was plotting evil things all the time!

  10. I'm so sorry to hear about Silver! I would have replied sooner but I just saw this post... :( I have two cats and they are part of my family. I can't imagine losing them one day although I know it will happen. My thoughts go to you!! And like you said, he is in a good place right now. :)
