Book Review | Homemade Nail Polish by Allison Rose Spiekermann with a DIY for Purple Matte Polish and GIVEAWAY!

Have you ever wanted to make your own or “franken” your own polish? I remember when indie polishes were just starting to come out and I’d sit back and say to myself, “No, it’s too much work and I’d never be able to make any of those cool colours and everything would just end up being a hot mess”. Fast forward to a couple of years later and indie polishes have exploded! One my favourite indie polish makers is Allison from Nail Pattern Boldness who has just written Homemade Nail Polish ($20.95 CDN) and is sharing the secrets for not just creating a plain old cream polish, but for jelly and matte polishes as well! This post is very picture-heavy as Allison has decided to share one of her recipes with you all!

Voila! Your own homemade polish!

Personally, I found the book to be highly detailed especially at the beginning when all the components of nail polish are explained and as well as the whys of the uses of certain chemicals. There are quite a number of recipes for some of the more attractive polishes and finishes so you can always just jump to those, but I found that reading the “science” of it all gave me a clearer understanding of what I would be making. The nail swatches are absolutely stunning and looking at the pictures should be incentive enough to attempt your own! I have not attempted making my own polish yet as I would still need to purchase extra ingredients, but the recipes are just a few steps at most and seem totally doable.

And now that I have gotten you all so excited about this book, it’s time for a GIVEAWAY! One very lucky person will win a copy of “Homemade Nail Polish” as well as her choice of Nail Pattern Boldness nail polish! This giveaway is open to all of North America! Good luck!
