MAKEUP LOOK | SUVA Beauty Block Party Eyeshadow Palette

The last time I went to IMATS Vancouver, I was veeeerrry tempted by the bright shades of Vancouver-based SUVA Beauty, but I figured "when would I ever use lime green in my daily life?" With a specialty for intensely bright and pigmented eyeshadows and eyeliners, SUVA Beauty has been on the backburner since I so rarely wear bright colours outside of blogging and though I have tried to phase in the occasional teal or purple eyeshadow at work, I mostly play it safe and stick with neutrals. The new Block Party Eyeshadow Palette is making me reconsider my makeup routine because my God was it ever fun to play with!

When I first looked at the Block Party Eyeshadow Palette* ($38.00 CDN) I didn't really know what to do with it. I thought I would get some inspiration from the SUVA Beauty Instagram, but it didn't seem like there was any rhyme or reason to how people were using the palette. ALL the shades were just getting used together and when I finally went to read all about SUVA Beauty's founder, Shaina Azad, I realized that it wasn't really about coordination, but about having fun and embracing your quirks. Being terrified of screwing up "having fun", I chose just two shades to play with and my goodness were they beautiful!

This limited edition palette is a mixture of five matte and five shimmery shades with buttery textures and zero fallout. I used the matte shade "Boombox" for my outer V and I was totally expecting a little bit of fallout because all dark matte shades like that generally have it, but when I zoomed into my skin, there was nothing! The transfer from brush to lid was seamless!

When I first swatched the shades, my gut immediately went to the shimmery shades, but now that I have had time to play with them more, these matte shadows are blowing me away too with how workable they are with both fingers and brush!

It was incredibly difficult to decide on what shades to wear as I am not the most coordinated at putting together more adventurous colours. On my nails I can figure it out, but for some reason, not on my eyes!

Final verdict: I am sad that I waited SO LONG to try this brand albeit SUVA has only been around since 2015. I feel like I have lost out on 3 years of brightly pigmented shadows for my eyes and will  now have to make up for some lost time by wearing this palette to my conservative work environment! I thought each shade had character and though I wouldn't say this was this easiest palette to use in terms of colour combinations, this is a great option if you are looking to create looks outside of the box or having that ONE go-to brights palette.
