Last week I had NENA nails and today I am relaxing with two of NENA's sheet masks! Made with Glacial Marine Extract, an extract from NENA's key ingredient of pure Canadian Glacial Clay and sourced right along the coast of BC! For now, these masks are only available as a gift with purchase, but hopefully they will be available for purchase in the future. So, how did a sheet mask with clay in its essence feel on my skin? Not like what I was expecting I'll tell ya that!
Rejuvenating Mask
The Rejuvenating Mask focuses on reducing visible signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and in addition to using glacial marine extract to tone and nourish the skin, also uses two matrikines which are peptides derived from partially degraded extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules (the non-cellular component in tissue) that can aid in skin rejuvenation (MDEdge, November 2020). Skin aging is mainly due to changes in the ECM like decreases in collagen and matrikines like tripeptides and hexapeptides have been shown to be good at the "garbage clean up" of removing damaged elastin and collagen from the ECM as well as promoting collagen synthesis (Aldag et al, November 2020).
I have used a few sheet masks with peptides in them and they have been quite nice, but probably would have better results with repeated use. Knowing how I use sheet masks, I am very much "wham bam thank you ma'am" because I always like trying something new!
Mask Summary Rejuvenating:
Price: Free with purchase of $30+ at www.nenaskincare.com
Skin concerns: Hydration, plumping
Scent: Lavender - smells so good to me!
Essence Type: Thick gel that is slightly cloudy from the glacial marine extract
Duration: 15-20 minutes
Thickness: Fairly thin
Mask Fit: Eye holes were too narrow and on an angle so some of the mask would always touch my actual lash line. I also found the fabric wrinkly and could not smooth things down even with applying more essence.
Tackiness: Medium
Hydration: Good!
Other notes: There was a residue that was left behind on my skin well into the next morning that pilled a bit. I thought the presence of cyclopentasiloxane would lessen the tackiness, but that was not the case.
Moisturizing Mask
I enjoyed this mask a bit more mainly because the finish was quite as tacky as the Rejuvenating Mask, but both were really quite nice. I just hope the eye holes will eventually be made bigger because I don't have very big eyes, but I found the fit pretty tight along my lower lashes.
