It is the day after the US Elections and Trump is still a contender if you can believe it. I wrote a sad post like this in 2016 when he shocked everyone by winning and now it's 2020 and it's so much more disappointing because the vote is SO CLOSE. Even if Biden wins, it means that 50% of the USA think Trump is a good leader which is even more scary so though I rarely speak out about politics, this is such a no brainer that if there are readers, friends and followers who no longer wish to support me because I do not support Trump, I welcome the unfollowing! I haven't been able to stop watching the news since 8am today and I think my brain would like the short break so let's shift over to my home away from home - skincare. Namely the Garnier BIO line which is ecocertified, vegan, affordable and available at the drugstore!
This isn't a huge collection so all of the products are said to be good for normal to combination or all skin types. The plant-focused collection is relatively complete with the exception of an exfoliator and a serum. While I understand the difficulties of creating a serum that checks all of the eco boxes of the BIO line, I was a bit surprised to not see even a physical exfoliant as there are many plant-based options available that could have been eco-certified, vegan and affordable.
I have talked about why I like the ECOCERT stamp in previous posts like this one from Canadian company Schaf Skincare, but I don't think it is necessary for a product to be a good one. It does cost money to get and the certification is done on each product as opposed to the brand itself so it can add up if you have an extensive product line.
Organic Cornflower Micellar Water
This micellar water smelled so good, but that's really the only thing that was working for me. Though this is intended for face and eye makeup removal, it wasn't the best as I most definitely needed a second cleanse afterwards. On a day where I'm not wearing any makeup it does a decent job, but it leaves my skin feeling a bit tacky to the touch which I don't enjoy. I really do love the scent so much, but in the world of micellar water, Bioderma still wins for me.
Organic Lavandin Anti-Age Eye Care
I love the scent of lavender so with three of the products here having that scent, I am already in love. That being said, if you are NOT a fan of lavender, you're probably not going to have much fun. This is a lightweight, but hydrating eye cream containing argan oil, vitamin E and of course lavender. I didn't notice a huge brightening effect when I applied this, but then again without mica or a flesh-toned base, I doubt there would be a visible difference. Personally, I have been using eye creams less and less as I am starting to adopt the whole concept of eye creams not being all that necessary and just using something lighter like an essence or even a lightweight moisturizer. Regardless of your views on eye creams, this one is perfectly fine and sits well under makeup.
Organic Argan Nourishing Moisturizer
Out of the two moisturizers I received, this was the one I preferred in terms of texture and how my skin felt after application. This contains argan oil, organic aloe vera and hyaluronic acid all in a shea butter base. I just find the feel of this so smooth and soft on the skin without leaving a greasy texture. The scent is just faintly sweet (like argan oil) and though this moisturizer is a touch heavier than the Lavandin Anti-Age Day Care, I found it more enjoyable to use.

I really wanted to love this moisturizer because it smelled so good and I probably would continue to use it if I didn't have other options in my collection, but it really all came down to texture as I felt like it was just a tiny bit more more tacky than the Argan Moisturizer, but other than that the results were the same in that both were hydrating without feeling super heavy. If you do want to amp up the hydration levels, you can also add a drop of the facial oil to this moisturizer.
Organic Lavandin Smooth & Glow Facial Oil
I have raved about this facial oil before in my facial oils post back in May and still continue to use and enjoy it! If you love the scent of lavender, you will love the aromatherapeutic aspect. This is a blend of lavender from France, argan oil and jojoba oil. As this oil is on the thicker side, you only need 2-3 drops for hydration and it absorbs nicely into the skin. This can also be used around the eye contour! I'm just not a huge fan of the dropper as it's the kind that just starts dripping product out right away because it doesn't have that little "bulb" to control flow, but other than that, this is one of the best and most affordable facial oils I have ever used!
Final verdict: This is a very basic and simple ECOCERT level of skincare. I wouldn't say the ingredients and formulations are particularly unique or out of this world, but it does cover the basic skincare needs. The biggest appeal for me is the fact that products like these are available at the drugstore and are at most $25 for the oil and moisturizer or $10 for everything else. The scents of all the products was lovely and though I would have liked a scrub or a cleansing oil in this collection, this is a decent start to Garnier BIO. I will keep my eye on future products as I feel there can be a lot more to add, but overall I was fairly happy with the five products I received especially the facial oil!
