SHEET MASK | Soo'Ae Unicorn Glow Hologram Mask

How did we get to November 1st?! I don't even know how we got here, but we've been living and breathing COVID for 8 months now and just when I thought masking would never be a regular part of my life, it is. So much of our routines have changed now because of the pandemic and I will admit that although I feel relatively "pre-COVID" in my day-to-day, every couple of minutes throughout the day (which is a lot when you think about it) I am reminded of our situation whether it's when I "mask up" for work, see my husband working from home every day, or witness my glossy and cream lipsticks going to waste from disuse. The latter has cut down my makeup purchases an INSANE amount since only long-lasting matte liquid lipsticks work for my day-to-day so I guess that's a good thing!

I've taken the last 20 days of #100DaysOfSheetMasks relatively easy since the hives as I took it as a sign to cool it on crazy skincare. I will be on Day 84 tonight of the challenge so I will still be done this month, but closer to the end of the month as opposed to early November when I normally wrap everything up. Korean beauty brand Soo'Ae was a big part of my masking challenge and all of the masks have been fun with relatively good results for the most part. Unfortunately, there is always one that doesn't quite live up to the hype and for me it was the Unicorn Glow Hologram Mask.

Soo'Ae Unicorn Glow Hologram Mask

This is a double-sided sheet mask with a purifying charcoal layer on the inside which is supposed to aid in niacinamide and collagen absorption to give skin a brighter and firmer look. I mean, I guess when your skin is "cleaner' it is more receptive to absorbing things?

The disappointing part came when I finally took out the mask because even on the Soo'Ae website, the mask looked like it had holographic properties, but alas it turned out to be just a regular foil mask which was fine, but not what I was expecting.

Mask Summary:

Price: $5 CDN
Skin concerns: Clarifying and brightening
Scent: None that I could detect. To me, it just smelled like charcoal since the back side of the mask was charcoal-lined.
Essence Type: Thick gel
Duration: 15-20 minutes
Thickness: Thick, but this is typical of foil masks
Mask Fit: As good as it's going to get so there is a bit of "tenting" in various areas of my face
Tackiness: REALLLLY tacky
Hydration: Good, but uncomfortable.
Other notes: N/A

Final verdict: I'm not a huge of foil masks and combined with the essence being incredibly sticky, I just can't imagine using this mask again. If the essence had been less tacky, I would be a bit more forgiving about the fact that it wasn't holographic, but all together I just felt a bit let down.
