SHEET MASK | Getting to Know Loops Beauty

I discovered Loops Beauty while exploring the "sheet mask" hashtag on Instagram earlier this year and what caught my eye about these hydrogel masks were the fun colours they came in as well as the brightly coloured packaging. The Creative Director is also none other than model/actress Emily Ratajkowski, best known to me as the topless dancing girl from Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" music video. Not like this fact should have any influence on your decision to try the brand, but it was an interesting side note. I am a sheet mask fan first and foremost so even though celebrity skincare brands generally make me do an eyeroll, I wanted to still try out the masks because they looked cool!

Purchased by me

Loops Beauty consists of purely hydrogel sheet masks with five targeted masks for the face, one for the lips and one for the eyes. The ingredients are no nonsense with plenty of plant-based ingredients to make me happy complete with no parabens, pthalates, sulfates or any synthetic fragrance. I wasn't as interested in the masks for the lips and eyes so I opted to get the Variety Loop pack which had all five face sheet sheet masks for $30 USD and a pack of five of the Sunrise Service masks to take advantage of free shipping at $40. Loops also has a number of promotions and coupon codes so I also received 15% off my total purchase!

All the masks are made in Korea and though hydrogel isn't a new material to me, these hydrogel masks are one of the few I have tried that are truly non-slip! The material used in the Loops masks is far more pliable and a touch more sticky than previous hydrogel masks I have tried allowing the mask to stay on and sit smoothly. Some hydrogel masks are very stiff and rubbery with constant creasing around the jawline or they are quite thick and heavy which leads to them sliding right off your face if you are doing anything, but lying down.

It's hard to tell without a frame of reference, but there is A LOT of packaging that comes with each masks which is a bummer. If I ignore the environment, the Loops packaging is attractive, but what surprised me was the fact that the mask itself has a protective sheet to prevent it from sticking to itself AND comes in a #2 plastic hard case that all inside the foil-lined sheet mask packet. It seems a bit overkill to me to have the hard plastic case as well! And it's not like the essence is contained inside the plastic case as the case itself comes out of the foil packet covered in essence. The foil packet is also quite large measuring about 5'' x 10''!

Sunrise Service
Loops Beauty Hydrogel Mask

This is a great mask all around and a fun one that I would like to have around when my skin needs the pick me up. This yellow tinted hydrogel mask is for depuffing, brightening, antioxidant support and hydration and contains pumpkin extract, baobab oil, jasmine, lotus, daffodil and rose flower extracts and something called "bio duoferm" which is Korean technology where yeast has undergone a double fermentation process producing substances that aid in improving skin tone and cell regeneration. The antioxidant activity observed is similar to ascorbic acid so very it's interesting!

Loops Beauty Hydrogel Mask

The Loops masks come in two parts with one side slightly textured for better adherence to the skin. These are fast masks at just 10 minutes for results to be felt, but I never leave a mask on for less than 20 minutes and these were just fine at almost 30 minutes on my skin so take your time!

Mask Summary (Sunrise Service):

Price: $30 USD/5 masks (sold only in packs not singles)

Skin concerns: Dullness, brightening

Scent: None

Essence Type: Clear, slightly viscous

Duration: 20 minutes

Thickness: Thin for hydrogel, but did not feel cheap, flimsy or rippable with my nails

Mask Fit: Good! Two piece fit is nice, but the chin fit better than most hydrogel masks I have used!

Tackiness: Light

Hydration: Good with a bit of a glow upon removal.

Other notes: Make sure to apply the textured side of all Loops Beauty masks to your skin.

Night Shift

Loops Beauty Hydrogel Mask

From the packaging colour and name of the mask, I knew there would be lavender in this mask. I love soothing masks like this before bed! In addition to calming the skin and the soul, this mask firms and nourishes with shea butter, hydrolyzed collagen extract, cactus extract and allantoin. There is also a tiny bit of rosemary and peppermint extract so this mask felt also cool to the skin.

Other notes: My skin did look less red as the mask was very cooling. Maybe the peppermint extract helped?

Clean Slate

Loops Beauty Hydrogel Mask

This was a really nice mask to have this summer and it's a shame I only picked up the one in the variety pack because I can see myself picking this up again! I don't use a lot of detoxifying masks because they are often too harsh for my skin, but in sheet mask form, they have turned out to be gentle and hydrating, yet refreshing. This mask is recommended for post-workout, as a refresh between facials or when skin feels congested. This mask contains clarifying volcanic ash, bamboo water and aloe vera.

Weekly Reset

Loops Beauty Hydrogel Mask

This was the only mask out of the group that left absolutely zero tackiness on the skin and was the best at reducing redness for me as it has honey extract, rice extract and evening primrose extract.

Loops Beauty Hydrogel Mask

Final verdict: I enjoyed these masks and will most likely purchase more down the road if there is a promotion, but I hope Loops Beauty is able to reduce the amount of packaging used because these are truly some of the best hydrogel masks I have used!
