If there is a sheet mask with a food-related reference, I'm going to wear it plain and simple! I've always been very attracted to the idea of food and skincare and the notion that if it's good enough for your skin, it's good enough to eat (although I know this is VERY bad idea 99% of the time!). When I worked for Tata Harper, she often said that her products were good enough to eat and they even did it as a Christmas marketing promotion where everyone was passing around product to spread on toast! Tofu was always a very important food in my Asian household and one that I have recently rediscovered as a protein alternative when I don't feel like eating meat. We've been trying to do more vegetarian throughout the week, but unfortunately my husband is not a huge fan of this soybean derivative so I am left on my own when it comes to my tofu food adventures including the discovery of this VT Tofu Probiotics Mask at our local T&T!
A little bit of background info on VT Cosmetics, they are a Korean skincare company focusing on natural ingredients, science-based skincare and also pride themselves on being at the forefront of the latest in skincare technology. I feel like this description applies to A LOT of Korean skincare companies now that it's all starting to blend together for me, but regardless I have been seeing a lot of good things about VT including a collaboration with Korean boy band sensation BTS!
If you are looking for an introduction to probiotic skincare, this is the product for you! Adding probiotics into skincare has been shown to reduce inflammation as well as hydrate the skin by keeping the microbiome of the skin happy and healthy and in the case of this mask, fermented tofu or soybean is used as the probiotic as part of the "Active-BIO6" group of probiotics. This group also includes: Lactobacillus/Milk Ferment, Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Saccharomyces Ferment Lysate Filtrate, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate and Streptococcus Thermophilus Ferment. The result after using this mask is revitalized, firmer and healthier looking skin. I have used this mask twice now and I have to say I agree!
The fit of the mask was oh so nice and you can see how thin it is as you can see my skin! The mask itself was very silky and soft and held essence really well. I was quite pleased with the quality!
Mask Summary:
Price: $13.99/5 pack (on sale at T&T)
Skin concerns: Hydration,
Scent: Kind of nutty, maybe a bit like tofu, but definitely reminded me of food!
Essence Type: Clear, slightly viscous
Duration: 20 minutes
Thickness: Super thin and soft
Mask Fit: Verrrry nice. Like skin!
Tackiness: Light
Hydration: Good! Maybe a little too much for an extremely hot summer night, but my skin did look extremely bright and even-toned upon removal.
Other notes: I found the mask a little bit challenging to unfold as it was quite thin and soaking with essence which made it stick to itself. This isn't the first time I have used a mask like this, but because the plastic backing was only for the top half of the sheet, I still had to manage with unsticking the rest of the mask. Not a big deal though!
Final verdict: I hope T&T continues to carry this mask because it was quite good! My skin looked brighter, less red and more even in tone. The fact that these masks were just under $3 was even better, but I would be willing to pay more for them as they were quite effective at doing what they claimed. I knew tofu wouldn't let me down!
You can find the VT Tofu Probiotic Mask at various T&T locations and Korean e-tailers online.
