I talked about Skin Republic at the beginning of this year (my how time has flown) and have been sitting on the review of this Retinol Hydrogel Mask because the "incubation time" on the face is almost an hour! Though I leave on my sheet masks for longer than the usual 15-20 minutes, the recommended 40 minutes for this hydrogel mask seemed just a touch too long.

What makes this mask special? The retinol! This is the first sheet mask I have used with retinol and comes in the form of retinyl palmitate. This form is not quite retinol as it actually an ester of retinol and palmitic acid and more gentle. It has also been shown to boost collagen production in the skin. There is also ascorbyl glucoside and peony extract to brighten the skin and fade dark spots.

Most hydrogel masks come in two parts for better fit as they are a heavier material and tend to slide off. The thickness of this mask was just right and I was able to sit up and putter around while having the mask stay in place.

Mask Summary:

Price: $9 USD

Skin concerns: Wrinkles, dark spots, hydration

Scent: Ever so slightly floral

Essence Type: Pink, thick, slightly jelly

Duration: 20 minutes

Thickness: Standard hydrogel thickness, but not so thick that the mask kept popping up from my skin

Mask Fit: Good! The two pieces held well and did not move. The nose piece was a little big, but I was easily able to fold it back.

Tackiness: Light, but it took about an hour to die down.

Hydration: Very nice! My skin didn't feel tight and I forgot about moisturizer!

Other notes: N/A

Final verdict: I did not expect to see any immediate results upon one use of this mask, but I think if this mask is incorporated into a weekly routine, I would hope to see some improvements. On its own, it was a pleasant mask and it did stay moist for the recommended 40 minutes which was nice! If you are looking for a very hydrating, non-tacky hydrogel mask that at least gives your skin a bit of a glow AND is pink then this one is a nice one! I don't know if I would purchase this in the future as I feel like if I wanted retinol in my skincare routine, I would just get a dedicated retinol-based product although it was interesting to see in a sheet mask.
