SHEET MASK | Dr. Althea Natural Brightening Velvet Mask

The FaceTory subscription used to include sheet masks from all different brands which I loved. Now, FaceTory has eliminated all third party brands and their subscription solely focuses on their house brand which is quite nice, but the main reason I liked the subscription was to discover fantastic sheet mask brands like Dr. Althea! This brand has won me over with their packaging (whether it's square or rectangular), their unique ingredients and the way their masks fit.

 

What makes this mask special? There are three types of probiotics in the essence to aid in increased skin barrier function as well as an "herbal brightening solution" containing licorice and ginger root extract, tea extract and grapefruit seed extract. Probiotics in skincare became very popular a couple of years ago, specifically with Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Serum as well as the launch of probiotic skincare brand TULA. 

While in theory topical probiotics sound amazing, ingestion seems to be a far more effective at least for promoting healthy gut microbiome. A microbiome also exists in our skin and the idea with probiotics in skincare is to eliminate an overabundance of bad bacteria that cause breakouts and promote a balanced microbiome that fosters hydration and less irritated skin. Over the years since my TULA review, I have used probiotic products on occasion, but never consistently mainly because I feel like my skin is doing well with what I currently do to pamper it. If you have consistent breakouts, probiotics might be something to try or maybe if I was going through a very dry skin spell which does happen on occasion. I will get these flaky patches even though I have been exfoliating.

It's funny how no two Dr. Althea masks every fit the same! This mask had a wonderful softness, but the fit was just ok. The forehead was a bit short, but the nose fit me perfectly!

Other notes: Mask was made of nano-microfibre so it was very soft and had a good amount of stretch.

Final verdict: I can definitely live with the fit of this mask being not quite perfect as the texture of the mask and overall results were quite lovely!
