NENA Glacial Micellar Water and Overnight Lip Mask

Last November, one of my favourite local skincare brands, NENA Skincare launched two brand new products that were the perfect additions to their ever-growing collection! I have featured NENA a lot on the blog because not only do I love the products, but I love their commitment to sustainability, respect for nature and their partnership with the Homlaco people to harvest the Glacial Oceanic Clay used in all of their products.

Finally! NENA has a micellar water and it is the first one I have used that has a scent I love which is lavender! Made with glacial mineral water and witch hazel, this is a gentle, no-rinse cleanser that removes oil, makeup and impurities on the skin. I wish this could be used to remove eye makeup, but due to the lavender oil, it is best to avoid contact with the eyes. I accidentally used it on my eyes at first, but I didn't experience any discomfort so I do think the formula is generally fairly gentle. If I am wearing a full face of makeup, I would advise using this micellar water as part of a dual cleanse so I found that using it alone on long-wearing foundation didn't get everything off the first time. With an oil cleanser, this micellar water is perfect and does not leave a residue or film on the skin.

A lip mask was not something I expected NENA to launch so you can imagine my intrigue when I got the press relase! I started using this as soon as it landed in my mailbox because I wanted to see how it compared with other lip masks I had in my stash. Formulated with a blend of Vitamin E, jojoba, hemp seed and olive oil, this is mask a thick one and unlike ANY lip mask I have tried! Depending on what you want in a lip mask, this can be a very good thing!

I used to apply Vaseline my lips right before bed whenever I needed to make sure no moisture escaped so this texture reminded me of that, but less greasy. This mask is an overnight mask that won't budge as it is like a helmet for your lips, but because of all of the plant oils, my lips legitimately felt and looked better thanks to the oils slowly being absorbed overnight into my lips! If your lips are going through a super dry and flaky phase (like where you can "hear" your lips whenever you apply lip balm), this mask is going to make your lips feel like lips again! Oh, and it's not the least bit sticky so it is incredibly comfortable to sleep in without worrying about *ahem* cat hair getting caught on your lips!

The lip mask has a slight blush pink tint and a faint berry scent that you really do not notice once it is on. The pink tint is actually lighter than my natural lip colour so I actually look a bit more pale upon application. Obviously that does not matter much to me since I am going to sleep! The only thing I wish was different about this product is the applicator as because it is flat, you pretty much need to squeeze it out onto your finger and apply the product on your lips. I would have liked an angled applicator, but I can live with this as Vaseline is something I would have applied with my finger as well.

Final verdict: While it took a bit of trial and error to get me on board with the lip mask, I ended up enjoying both of NENA's new releases. While I might not use the lip mask during the day, its claim of being a good overnight mask is very true! The micellar water has also been a nice way for me to cleanse in the mornings as I don't like doing a full cleanse in the AM. I have just used water for most of my life, but if I have applied a heavier facial oil the night before or a thick night mask, sometimes I just need a bit of extra help to get everything off!
