MAKEUP | Basma Beauty Foundation Stick with Before and After Photos

 Basma Beauty Foundation Stick

Purchased by me

Now, that I have shingles scars on my face, my makeup routine has changed. One, I am fully masking again at work so that means that I am a little less committed to doing a full face of makeup 5 days/week. If I do, I have been keeping it light and while I was sick and spending most of my days on the 'Gram, I came across a Sephora post for the Canadian brand Basma Beauty and their Foundation Stick. This foundation is all about having your skin still look like skin, but with minimal and lightweight-feeling product.

Basma Beauty was founded in 2021 by Basma Hameed, a micropigmentation specialist specializing in paramedical tattooing. When she was two years old, she suffered third degree burns on 50% of her face after an accident in the kitchen involving hot oil. The scars left behind were red and Hameed was told by doctors that nothing could be done. When she asked about tattooing skin-coloured pigments into the scar tissue, her doctors said that the scar tissue would not hold the pigment. Right after she was told this, she went on got her eyebrows tattooed and lo and behold, the pigment held! Hameed went on to become a micropigmentation specialist opening her own clinics in Toronto and Beverly Hills specializing in scar camouflage and if you look at her Instagram page, the transformations (herself included!) are incredible!

Hameed has said that makeup was something she always was passionate about and considering her story and how familiar she is with skin tone and pigments, it made complete sense that The Foundation Stick was going to be Basma Beauty's first product! Coming in 40 shades, there is something for everyone here and what's nice is that on the Basma Beauty website, it tells you the complementary contour/highlight shade based on the shade you have selected!

The packaging is pink and metallic on the outside with a magnetic cap. Just twist up for product and then start applying! This formula is INCREDIBLY buttery and glides soooo smoothly across the skin! There is 6.3g of product which does not feel like that much, but as this isn't meant to be a cakey foundation, I don't find myself using much product as you do not need to press very hard to get a swipe of coverage across the skin. For areas that just need a bit of evening out, I stick to one swipe, but for areas that need a bit more coverage like my shingles scars, I dab a little extra foundation on top and pat with my finger for thicker coverage. For the rest of my face, I have been using a brush which is very unlike me, but I find the pigments glide so beautifully across the skin with a brush that I have stuck to it. You can use a beauty sponge or your fingers if you would like.

I have said this countless times I am sure, but truly THIS foundation feels so weightless that I forget it's there! I set mine with powder as wearing a mask really puts the bottom half of my face through some intense conditions and I don't experience any breaking down around oilier areas like my nose and chin.

I used the Sephora shade matcher to find my Basma Beauty shade (035), but upon application I think it is a bit on the light side and should have gone for 037 which caters to more yellow undertones.

It might be hard to see in these photos, but what I like about this foundation is that my face doesn't look flat. This foundation is almost like using a hydrating oil so the natural shine of your skin still shows through, but doesn't have a greasy finish.

Final verdict: Now, that I am into much lighter coverage and being able to use one product like a concealer this foundation is just perfect! The weightlessness is unbelievable and the buttery texture is unreal! I have only used a handful of foundation sticks before and usually they are "stickier" so application to the face felt like tugging. This Basma Foundation Stick is all glide and holds all day so I could not be happier. I was so excited to try this and took my product photos as soon as I could. I may pick up shade 037 later on once I finish this as I don't think 035 is terrible on me in real life, but other than that, everything about this foundation is what I wanted and then some!
