Review | New Aqua Summer 2013 - Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge #19

Summer is finally upon us and as all of us have seen, bright and vibrant colours in everything from clothes to makeup are what’s making a splash! The Aqua line has been a successful one for Make Up For Ever as each lip and eye product is truly long-lasting. I have reviewed Aqua Rouge before in #8 and was completely floored by the industrial strength hold it had on my lips and have purchased two more on my own. This summer, Make Up For Ever has introduced five new shades in #16 Fuchsia, #20 Baby Pink, #17 Bright Coral, #18 Coral and #19 Pomegranate Pink which I will review for you today!

This long-wear lip colour is perfect for the summer months! Use the highly-pigmented, liquid lip colour alone or top it with the clear gloss to create beautiful, non-transferable, kiss-proof and smudge-proof lips. A combination of high molecular weight polymers and volatile oils work to lock colour on lips while providing coverage.

Aqua Rouge #19

As you can see, the actual colour of #19 is quite different from the promotional picture. There is definitely more red than pink in the actual colour.

I call this “the sealant” which has a brush applicator. Make sure the colour is completely dry before applying sealant or else the colour will smear!

I was afraid that the colour would look TOO bright on me, but I really love it! It’s surprisingly natural looking with my skin tone!

Price: $29.00 CDN

Packaging: Sleek, thick plastic double-ended tube with black gradient on the clear side. I wonder if it’s to hide the brush that will probably get colour on it over time and start looking pink and “used”? If it is, it’s pretty smart!

Scent: Lightly floral, but undetectable once on the lips.

Formula: Since I have reviewed this exact product before, I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but the formula is fantastic! It lives up to its claim of long-wearing in every way. The colour stays vibrant for hours and hours even with eating, rubbing, kissing and whatever other daily wear your lips go through! The only food that this product doesn’t last through is GREASY food. Oil is the only way to really remove this lip colour so if you can avoid an oily food while wearing Aqua Rouge, I would try to do so! I tested another colour out when I had a 10 hour day and I kid you not, I had fresh, glossy lips for almost the whole day! Just make sure that if you want to touch up your lips use only the MUFE “sealant”! Don’t use lip balm! I did that once and the colour just started bleeding and smearing like crazy! The product description also says that you can use Aqua Rouge lip colour without the glossy finish, but I found it to be too drying on its own so I highly recommend using the gloss provided. For those of you who have tried the NYX Lip Creams, the application of the Aqua Rouge feels very similar. It feels very plush on the lips, just make sure you apply the colour in the lines because it’s very hard to fix once the colour has set!

Final Verdict: I know it’s pricey at $29 a pop, but just get ONE colour that you will use often because I still don’t own any lip colours that have the same longevity as the Aqua Rouges. Since these guys have practically industrial strength staying power, they feel a little bit thicker on the lips than conventional lipstick, but look amazing. The gloss even lasts when physically rubbed so I still stand by my previous verdict that this product is highly recommended!
