Painting my nails always makes me feel better and generally if I don’t have nail polish on, I’m either sad or stressed. I started feeling a little bit better over the weekend, having made it through a full day without crying about Yoshi, and had the craving to paint my nails a super bright colour. I figured, why not dive right into some of the new drugstore beauty releases like the new Infallible 2-Step Nail Colours from L’Oreal? Hot on the heels of the gel-lacquer type nail polishes, these new polishes come in 12 must-have colours and require two steps for an ultra shiny and lasting finish. Step 1 is the actual nail polish and Step 2 is a fast-drying tinted top coat. Below is the shade Fuschia for Life*($10.99 CDN) in two coats with the tinted top coat.
The nail polish and top coat are each in 5mL bottles that you pull out of the center black bar. The bottles are essentially minis, but the brush is of a normal size. This mini size might be disappointing to some for the price and I, too, was taken a back.
The pictures don’t do this polish justice, but my nails are VERY shiny even 4 days after. The polish itself was wonderful in formula and the tinted top coat seemed to give my nails the look and feel of a genuine gel polish. I am not too sure of the visual difference between this polish and the L’Oreal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque system as I have not worn the latter yet. There is one less step as the Infallible 2-Step Nail Colour does not require the use of a base coat, but with any dark polish wear a base coat anyway to prevent staining.
The tinted top coat is an interesting one and although you can use any top coat you’d like, the shine and gel-look are really because of it. I have not tried any other top coats with this nail polish, so I’m sure the final finish could possibly be replicated. However, I believe the idea of this 2-step application system is to have everything you need in one place. The colours in this new collection range from deep reds, to pinks to neutrals so essentially very classic and core colours that everyone would want to have in their collection. Why not have these core colours packaged in a way where you wouldn’t need anything else? The price still surprises me, but the quality is bang on. The shine is fabulous and the wear time of 12 days is so far living up to its claim.
The L’Oreal Infallible 2-Step Nailcolour system is available at mass drugstores now. Are you intrigued by the tinted top coat?
