MAKEUP LOOK | Neutral Eyes with Urban Decay Naked Palette 1 and a Pop of Blue with NYX

This was my birthday look. My birthday was July 1st. It is the end of August so I guess this look was long overdue to talk about! I remember it was quite humid in Vancouver that day hence the crazy baby hairs and weird curls that my ghd could not seem to fix. Nevertheless, it was the first time in awhile I had had a birthday party and I wanted to pull off turning 33 (!) by adding something new to my makeup routine - blue liner. Blue liner has been trending this year and looking at these photos now, I wish I had been braver and had a heavier hand with how much blue I was using because it really is such a great colour on everyone!

I wish I had bigger eyes/the skillz to pull off some of the amazing coloured eye looks I have seen, but on this day, I was a little scared to show up to my own party looking TOO different. All of my friends love makeup too, but they are used to seeing me looking fairly tame in comparison to what I do on this blog. I wanted to wear false lashes, but I was already wearing blue mascara which meant no falsies if I wanted the lashes to show through.

Out of all of the Naked palettes, this is the palette I used the most and I still remember the day I picked up Naked 1. It had just launched in the summer of 2010 and I had just attended a wedding that day in downtown Vancouver. We had one of those dreaded FIVE HOUR breaks between ceremony and reception I decided to go into Sephora and pick one of these up. I'm happy I got it when I did because it was sold out for what feels like an eternity after that weekend! You can see I have panned the colour "Toasted" and actually have purchased the full size as well. You can visibly see how well-loved Naked 1 is.

I mean, yes the blue liner is there and in person it is noticeable, but now I am looking at these photos wanting to tell myself, "MORE LINER!!" This would be so much more fierce with a thick cat eye, but I guess I got shy and played it safe.

The party was great, friends were great and all in all turning 33 wasn't so bad. I get a little weirded out when I think of myself approaching my mid-30s and having to tick a different box when I fill out forms or surveys. For now I still have yet to find my first grey hair, parts of my body are still sitting where they should be and my skin is still feeling fairly youthful. The main thing I have really noticed is the slowing of my metabolism and muscles stay sore a little longer than they used to if I over exert myself.

Have any of you celebrated a big birthday recently? Tips on aging gracefully?
