BATH & BODY | Experiencing Tranquility with Amayori

I am a terrible morning person. I am definitely a night owl and if I have to get up before 8am, I am generally rushing or looking for shortcuts to look my best without needing too much time. Evenings are when I finally take some time for ME. I am almost always exhausted and looking for ways to relax and forget about the stress of the day and prepare for bed which is why I have my showers at night. It is the only time I feel I can be truly selfish which means this is when I pull out all the stops when it comes to experiencing products. Especially products that encourage me to stop, slow down and relax.

Created by Francoise Decatrel, Amayori, was created to be more than just a brand, but a new way of life. Inspired by Japanese bathing rituals, Amayori is about leaving the hustle of a busy day and stepping into a world of tranquil and peaceful existence. I feel more relaxed even just writing the words! Honestly, I do most of my thinking in the shower whether it's coming up with nail designs or letting go of an unpleasant day. It really is a cleansing space for mind and body and after visiting an onsen (Japanese bath) in Japan, Francoise realized that these cleansing and meditative rituals were life-changing ones that she needed to share.

A couple of weeks ago, I received a selection of products to try and I was so impressed by them that I had to email Francoise right away to tell her that I had never smelled anything quite like the package she had sent! Every product is vegan and made with only natural ingredients and preservatives in small micro batches in Amayori's New York loft. Artisanal aromatherapy at its best!

Starting with the multi-purpose Hikaru Multi-Use Oil* (98mL/$110 USD), this is a beauty oil inspired by the Geishas with "hikaru" meaning "radiance". This oil can be used to turn your bath into an aromatherapeutic treat, as a shower oil or even as a way to add shine to you hair's dry ends. The bottle is made of a heavy black glass guaranteed to keep those oils stable. There are five scents available with the one I received being Geisha Ritual, a blend of jasmine, yellow mandarin and bergamot. All three are scents I absolutely adore!

Ingredients: Coconut Oil, Organic Camellia Seed Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Organic Citrus bergamia (Italian Bergamot) Oil, Jasmine Grandiflorum (Jasmine) Absolute, Citrus reticulata  (Yellow Mandarin Peel) Oil, Natural Essential Oil Blend, Rosemary CO2 Extract

Bath salts are something I don't really use all that much as I prefer a fizzy bath bomb or bath oils, but my husband actually really likes them! Inspired by the hot springs in Japan, there are six different scents of Luxury Bath Salts (5 x 4 oz/$80.00 USD) with the scent I received being Hinoki Onsen*, a blend of Bois de Rose, jasmine sambac and red mandarin. These bath salts are a truly luxurious blend of three different salt varieties combined with organic Atlantic sea kelp to detoxify skin and green tea powder as an antioxidant. I admit that I used only half of this packet when I was actually supposed to use the whole thing for one bath! Using the whole bag would have been so much better as I found the scent to be not intense enough with the amount I was using. As these are on the pricier side, I will definitely only be using these for extra stressful days!

Ingredients: Dead Sea Salt, Pink Himalayan Salt, Pacific Sea Salt, Green Tea, Organic Atlantic Kelp, Chamaecyparis Obtusa Endl. (Hinoki) Oil, Jasmine Sambac (Jasmine) Absolute, Aniba rosaeodora (Rosewood) Essential Oil, Citrus reticulata (Red Mandarin) Essential Oil, Natural Essential Oil Blend

These Shower Mochis* (3 for $21 USD) are the coolest, most awesome things I have come across in a long time. Initially, I thought they were bath bombs, but what they are is the shower alternative to having a fragrance-filled bath. They are flat on one side because they are meant to be placed on the floor, just a bit away from where the shower hits to allow for a fragrance-filled shower of steamy goodness. This is genius for someone like myself who takes many more showers than baths! There are five different scents with the one I received being the Zen Shower Mochi which is honestly one of the BEST things I have ever smelled in my life! This is an energizing scent of blood orange, bitter orange and a hint of Japanese mint. I mean, can it GET any better than that?!

Ingredients: Shower Mochi tablet blend that includes Mochiko (sweet rice flour) rice bran oil, and Rice Ferment Filtrate (Sake), Organic Citrus aurantium (Sicilian Blood Orange) Oil, Citrus aurantium v Amara (Egyptian Bitter Orange) Oil, Mentha arvensis (Japanese Mint) Oil,  Piper nigrum (Black Pepper) Essential Oil, Natural Essential Oil Blend

Essentials oils just before bed have become a ritual for me whether it'd be in the form of a pillow spray or since last year, rolled or dotted onto the palms of hands. I then cup my hands around my nose and take a deep breath. It is truly amazing how much more relaxed you feel. I used to have clients do this after giving mini-facials (in a past life) and everyone looked so at peace afterwards. My mind often races before going to bed and a scent like Dreams of Gion* (10mL/$70.00 USD) literally tells my brain to shut up in the nicest way. This is not a scent I would use during the day as the ylang ylang oil immediately makes me want to close my eyes and dream the night away...

Ingredients: Organic Camellia Oil, Citrus Junos  (Yuzu) Oil, Citrus Reticulata  (Green Mandarin) Oil, Lavandula angustifolia  (Wild Lavender) Oil, Cananga Odorata Genuina (Ylang Ylang Extra) Oil,  Natural Essential Oil Blend, Rosemary CO2 Extract

Final verdict: I love the inspiration for the products and the scents are like something otherworldly that I have never experienced. The Shower Mochis were my favourite product as I have always been more of a shower girl and everything from the packaging to presentation is incredibly luxurious. I do wish it was more readily available in Canada, but Amayori does ship to Canada at flat rate of $25. There are other scents I would like to try and if you too are curious about what you might like, there is also a sampler fragrance set that gives you a taste of everything. I look forward to trying more from this new-to-me company because as someone pretty high strung, I love products that make me take a step back and chill.
