MAKEUP LOOK | Celebrating the Lunar New Year with Charlotte Tilbury...and Blue Hair

I never really thought about the fact that I tend to do changes around Chinese/Lunar New Year. Last year, I changed my blog layout after 4 years and this year it seems I have gone blue. I will talk about my latest Aveda hair adventure after I see how the colour rinses out over the next few weeks, but for now you will have to bear with me as I struggle to find makeup and clothing that matches my Muppet locks!

Over the holidays, I had a Holt Renfrew gift card that I needed to spend which always leads me to the beauty section. I didn't want more skincare which meant makeup. Which meant the Charlotte Tilbury counter. I was a crazy big fan of the Hot Lips Lipsticks (review) and knew I wanted to add a beautiful red from the same series to my collection and it just so happened that Carina Lau was one of the newest additions to the Hot Lips celebrity family. Carina Lau is HUGE in Asian circles and though I haven't been following her career closely, all you have to do is say her name and everyone of all ages knows immediately who she is.

Carina's Love ($38.00 CDN) is a red I was not expecting. It isn't fiery orange or even deep and dark. It has a hint of blue in it with a non-drying matte finish. When it comes to matte finishes, Charlotte Tilbury has really hit it out of the park with a formula that is comfortable, long-lasting and incredibly pigmented. While I had this lipstick, I also received a couple of other fun items from Charlotte Tilbury to try so I figured it was time for a makeup look!

I was sent the Magical Mini Brush Set* ($75.00 CDN), a set of four synthetic brushes for the eyes and face. The case is reminiscent of Hollywood glam and is something I would use as a wallet too! It has a hard case and is just perfect for a little bit of cash and a few cards. My phone won't fit, but let's face it, it's probably going to be in my hands anyway.  

While the brushes were very soft, the only one I wasn't a huge fan of was the smallest, precision brush. While it was fine for lining my lower lash line, lining the upper lash line was something else! 

I am fully aware that I my foundation is lighter than what I would normally wear as I was channeling Asian makeup and going for the "Snow White, never worked a day in the sun" look by using a lighter cushion foundation. I can never get over how much better the coverage is with Asian cushions. One tap and I can't see my pores anymore! While this isn't a foundation I use all the time, I take it out every once in awhile if I want my lipsticks to have more of a *POW* effect.

Face:

None as my brows are microbladed (4 weeks after touch up)

Eyes:
Apply Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize in Mona Lisa* all over the lid and blend out into outer V.
Line lower lash line with Mona Lisa with smudger brush.
Line upper lash line with Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon in Black Diamonds* and be messy about it!
Line lower water line with Charlotte Tilbury Rock N Kohl Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil in Supernova.
Apply a generous coat of Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Mascara* to the top and bottom lashes.

Cheeks:

Lips:

Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Lipstick in Carina's Love

While I am not entirely happy with this look (I think I should have added on some fake eyelashes and darkened my brows), Charlotte Tilbury never lets me down and is a luxury brand that I continue to buy from because the quality is consistently good. The customer service at Holt Renfrew is also fantastic! The lip and eye products are hands down my favourite and Carina's Love has already become one that Jayne loves. For those of you celebrating the New Year, Happy New Year and eat lots!
