Can you believe Canada is turning 150 years old this July 1st? Canada is actually such a young country and I am proud to call it my home. The day Canada turns 150, I will be turning 34 so even though I was born in Malaysia I feel like it truly was destiny for my family to find Vancouver and call it home almost 29 years ago. I also became an official Canadian citizen on July 1st, 1992 so this day holds a ton of importance for me which is why I was delighted to partner up with Nail Polish Canada and Whats Up Nails for today's collaboration!
Nail vinyls have really become quite the nail art tool in the last year or so as the quality of vinyls have gotten better and we no longer have to resort to masking or scotch tape to create clean edges and perfect shapes. Now, we have companies like Whats Up Nails to make perfectly peelable vinyls with just the right amount of stickiness and even a little "handle" to peel off a perfect manicure!
These Whats Up Maple Leaf Vinyls* come in two sizes and are really a 2-in-1 vinyl as there is an outer vinyl that lets you fill in the center with nail polish as well as the maple leaf itself that can be used for a fast and easy Canada Day manicure!
A good vinyl gives the user a little "tail" to pull to reveal the final design and I have to say that the little tabs on either end or PERFECT. You don't have to use tiny tweezers to make sure you're not digging up your polish and you are left with the most perfectly polished maple leaf!
As the CBB theme for this month is "rainbows" and in honor of pride and Canada's acceptance of all cultures, I decided to do a sideways rainbow sponge gradient!
I started off with two coats of white using Essence Wild White Ways* and waited for this to FULLY dry before applying my vinyl. When applying your vinyl, it is imperative that you press down at all the edges of the leaf to give you as crisp a line as possible. Once I applied the vinyl, I applied two colours to a makeup sponge and gently filled in the maple leaf, making sure to get right into the corners. Then, peel that vinyl off right away and you will be left with a pretty awesome gradient maple leaf! The nail polish shades I used for my rainbow were: Essence Fame Fatal*, OPI No Tan Lines*, OPI Exotic Birds Do Not Tweet*, CND Vinylux Palm Deco*, OPI Suzi Without a Paddle*, OPI Super-Cal-i-fiji-tastic*, OPI Getting Nadi on my Honeymoon* and Essence Break Through.
Canada is all "aboot" the red and white so I finished off each nail with a hand-drawn red tip using Essence Fame Fatal* and then a shiny top coat!
