I love it when a product lives up to its pretty packaging. I first came across LA-based feminine care brand Rael Beauty on Anna's (@maskaddict) Instagram feed and though she does share with all of us A TON of sheet mask brands, this was one of the ones that I immediately looked up, found on Amazon.ca and purchased 4 boxes of all 4 masks available! Not only was the packaging sexy, but I loved the sustainable materials and ingredients and the brand's story. Created by three South Korean women, Rael's main focus is feminine hygiene and menstrual care with their initial products being 100% natural cotton pads, tampons and liners and added holistic care like the sheet masks intended to combat those hormonal skin freakouts we all get during our periods as well as provide some added pampering. I adore these sheet masks and have already signed up to receive on autoreplenishment in a few months because I KNOW I cannot be without these!
Purchased by me
All Rael sheet masks are made in South Korea with sustainable bamboo yarn using nanotechnology which I am guessing means a weave that provides a closer fit because the fibers are closer together. The mask is also meant to be more flexible as well as hold a good amount of essence to be absorbed into the skin. All Rael products are free of: parabens, alcohols, mineral oil, silicone (YAY!), artificial fragrance, benzophenone, pigment, phenoxyethanol, PEG and talc.
There are four masks to choose from, all of them being fantastic and with different skin goals in mind. The first one that I think most of us would like, especially if you have combo to oily skin is Fresh Forward. This is a mask containing tea tree leaf (antioxidant), centella asiatica (increases collagen synthesis), chamomile (calming) and lavender extract all early on in the ingredients list.

This mask is indeed refreshing and made my skin feel clean without being overly drying. Quite the opposite in fact! You can see that the fit of the mask is VERY nice and held its essence well while allowing it to slowly make its way into the skin. This was the first mask I tried and even my normal-dry skin was a BIG fan!
The next mask I tried was one that was good, but probably the one that I liked the least out of the four mainly because my skin didn't look quite as bright as it did with the other three. The Vita Bright sheet mask contains niacinamide and sodium ascorbyl phosphate (Vit C derivative) all in the first half of the ingredients list and are the ones that will brighten uneven skintone. The featured ingredients of pomegranate and mulberry extract are in the later half of the list so not sure how effective they would really be in fixing uneven skin tone.
The tackiness in this mask was low and while my skin looked good, I found that my skin looked best with the upcoming Hydrolock sheet mask as the redness I have in my cheeks was still pronounced.
The Hydrolock mask was my favourite and is again another mask for any skin type, but what I really loved other than my radiant and fresh skin was the fun citrus ingredients like pineapple, orange and grapefruit extracts. It was like a party on my face! I feel like these ingredients should have been in the Vita Bright mask! This mask also claims to tighten pores and control sebum which I have to say seemed totally legit because my skin just looked so smooth and airbrushed after the essence and been absorbed! By far my favourite mask of the group!
Youth Island was probably the most intense in terms of hydration and tackiness. While the other masks were fairly low on the tackiness scale this one with its hydrolyzed collagen right at the top of the ingredients list and wheat amino acids to attract moisture took a bit of time to absorb. This mask also contains licorice root extract which apparently helps diminish dark and age spots. I am guessing this might be true with repeated use, but it definitely did not happen in the first use. My skin was certainly bouncier after this treatment, but my vote still would go for Hydrolock for now until I get even older than I am and my skin dries out like a prune!
All of the masks had a fantastic fit with the mask being full of essence with extra to spare in the packet. The bamboo yarn technology really made the mask feel comfortable and soft to wear. It stretched well and though the forehead was a bit shorter than with other sheet masks I have used, I really didn't mind as it kept my hairline free of essence!
Final verdict: I think all of the masks are indeed quite good, but my favourites would have to be Fresh Forward and Hydrolock. These are my new favourites and I will keep loving them for as long as I am masking!
