MAKEUP REVIEW | The Body Shop Enchanting Eye Palette Dolly Pastels and Geisha Doll Lip & Cheek Stain

I didn’t get a chance to do as many holiday looks as I had wanted as I was distracted with Yoshi’s deteriorating condition for the remainder of December. The Body Shop had a number of uber cute holiday makeup releases, two of which were the Dolly Pastels Enchanting Eye Palette* and the Geisha Doll Lip and Cheek Stain*.  This is one makeup look that I feel a little embarrassed showing all of you because the colours from eyeshadow palette just did not work with my skin tone. Other reviews for this palette were positive, so I have a feeling it was just me, but feel free to see how the colours ended up looking on me!

The 4 colour palette is encased in a magnetically sealed cardboard case with a cute sweater-type print on the front.

There are instructions on the back as to how and where to use each shade which is what I used to create the look below.

Each eyeshadow pan holds 1.8g of product and comes with a double-ended brush and mirror.

All four shades swatched quite well with the exception of the shimmery apricot shade which was just a glittery mess for me. The brown is intended to be used as a liner and was the most pigmented out of the group.

How cute is this packaging? The bottle is glossy round ball that fits into the palm of my hand and has a doe-foot applicator.

The stain itself is fairly pigmented and more an orange-red as opposed to a deep holiday red. Okay, so now on to the look that didn’t quite work…

I literally copied the instructions on the back of the palette and used the Geisha Doll Lip and Cheek Stain on my lips and cheeks. I found the stain difficult to apply evenly on my lips, but in retrospect I should have just used it in the middle of my lips for that “popsicle pout”. I was a little heavy-handed with it on my cheeks which led to some VERY rosy cheeks.

The apricot shade was too close to my skin tone and was very glittery. Sheer pastels never work on my eyes and maybe if I had primed my eyes with a thick cream base, I would have had more colour to my eyes.

Final Verdict: The palette colours didn’t really do much for in terms of bringing out my eyes. If anything, I look A LOT like the little geisha doll on the lip and cheek stain. I think this palette looks beautiful on very fair or perhaps much darker skin tones. I am that yellow in between shade that doesn’t always work with colours like these. The stain was beautifully pigmented as a cheek stain and I will give it another go as a lip stain as I don’t think I used it in quite the right way. It did last all day though so staying power is definitely there!

How do you prefer to use a lip and cheek stain?
