Review | Born Pretty Half Pearl Studs

Today I have another Born Pretty nail art review for you all involving something I have been very curious about – half pearl studs! I thought that they would be quite delicate and difficult to work with, but they were surprisingly cooperative! For my nail art design, I chose to do a simple flower design which I was not entirely pleased with, but hey what’s nail art without a few mistakes? I was quite impatient with top coat and didn’t wait long enough for my petals to dry :(

For my base, I used the most gorgeous bright mint green, Bourjois Paris – Turquoise, followed by China Glaze-Snow to make the flower petals. Then with my new favourite tool, a wax pencil, I picked up the pearls and just placed them in the flower centers. Simple!

The half pearls come in five different colours and can have a little bit of static to them which is why some are sticking to the plastic lid.

In terms of lasting power, these pearls have lasted MUCH longer than the metal nail studs mainly because of their small size. With a coat of top coat, all the free pearl edges are sealed in and the design is locked in. No studs getting stuck in the hair! I will admit that the pearls looked a little bit better without top coat as I feel that they lost a bit of their lustre once it was applied. I used both Sally Hansen’s Insta-Dri and Julep’s Freedom Polymer Top Coat, so maybe I’m just not using the right top coat. Overall, these pearls were just as easy to use as the metal nail studs and I hope to create another design when I’m more patient! These would be wonderful on a wedding manicure so I’ll have to experiment for my own ;-)

The pearls were a PR sample sent to me for review. All opinions are my own!
