Like most things that I order from eBay, sometimes things get lost and when I ordered this at the beginning of this year I was convinced I was not going to get a chance to see whether the TonyMoly Luminous Goddess Aura Aurolighter was truly a rainbow highlighter. Then one day, after filing my loss report with the seller, it just showed up after 3 months of being MIA completely intact!
Last year, we were all clamoring to get our hands on the coveted Prism or "rainbow" highlighter from Bitter Lace Beauty and let's just say that I was always too slow to get one when they restocked. Once I saw that TonyMoly made one for $16 CDN, I was all over it "like a fat kid on a dirty Smartie". I'm not normally a highlighter gal, but it's a RAINBOW man! How many of you wouldn't be curious?!
Along with trying all the shades of the rainbow together, the first thing I wanted to see was whether each shade actually swatched as red, orange, yellow etc. and low and behold, they did so if you really wanted to use the shades individually, you can!
This highlighter smelled somewhat floral and was a little powdery as there was some fallout with every brush swipe. It didn't have the same buttery feel as some of the more high end highlighters I have tried over the years.
For application purposes, I swiped a fan brush horizontally to pick up all of the colours and oddly enough they blended together to create fairly universal highlight shade. It's definitely more of a frosty highlight, but wearable. I made the mistake the other day of just swiping my brush from the middle downward, picking up the yellow, green and blue which DID NOT LOOK GOOD. I never thought I could have the appearance of "highlighted nausea", but that's what it looked like so definitely take your brush horizontally across the entire pan!
The colours also do not blend together when you brush across them so rest assured this highlighter will still look like a rainbow and not a pile of muck after repeated use!
Hi, cheekbones! |
Final verdict: This is a pretty fun product and I am glad it finally made it to by mailbox! No, it wasn't the most buttery in formulation, but for $16 I was expecting more of a fun little gimmick than a high end luxury product. The packaging was nothing to write home about, but I definitely got my rainbow highlighter craving out of the way with this one!
You are most likely to find the TonyMoly Luminous Goddess Aura Aurolighter at various Korean etailers.
