SKINCARE | *New* Dermalogica Precleanse Balm + Halloween Makeup Removal +GIVEAWAY!

Double posting! This is something I haven't done in years, but I have had four days at home to catch up and do what I love most - writing about beauty products. It almost feels like a vacation because usually I'm so tired that all I do is yawn at the screen and one sentence seems to take minutes to write because I cannot seem to put a subject and a predicate together. Let's all enjoy it while this lasts because today I am going to tell you guys how I took off all of that fun green grease paint from my Bride of Frankenstein Halloween makeup with the help from my friends at Dermalogica!

Dermalogica Precleanse Balm Review

If you are a fan of Dermalogica's Precleanse Deep Cleansing Oil, you will love the new Precleanse Balm* ($62.00 CDN/90mL)! This is a water-activated balm to oil cleanser and is intended to be the first step of your double cleanse. If you do not know what a double cleanse is, the idea originates from the Asian skincare routine and works so that the first cleanser should be an oil which is meant to emulsify and lift dirt and makeup from the skin's surface. The second cleanser can be cream, foam or liquid and is where the "real" cleansing happens as you are now cleansing CLEAN skin. This balm also comes with a silicone mitt to aid in a thorough massage-like cleanse to ensure skin is primed and ready for the second cleanse.

As you can see, I have a lot of makeup on. The instructions inside include a face map showing where it's ok to put the balm. The ears were not highlighted on the map so I avoided them and cleaned them off separately in the shower. As this balm is essentially a solid oil cleanser, it is also safe for use around the eyes.

This balm can be applied with either bare hands or with the included cleansing mitt which I thought would be clunky at first, but because your fingers can go riiiiight to the tip of the glove, there is a surprising amount of control that allowed me to get to even the inner corners of my eyes. I still had to use a cotton swap for my eyeliner, but the rest of my eye was taken care of.

For a normal makeup day, an almond sized amount of balm will be more than enough, but in my case I used about 1.5x this amount and still needed another go!

As you can see, I still had a green tinge to my skin, but the main parts of my face like my cheeks, forehead and chin were clean of makeup. I have a small sink so I was quite restricted in my movement and was already flinging green-tinged water all over the place. The balm also removed most of my dark lipstick.

For my second cleanse, I used the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel* ($52.50/250mL) a soap-free, foaming gel containing lavender extract and mint to refresh and cleanse in a way that doesn't strip the skin. I enjoyed both the texture and scent of this cleanser quite a bit, though I think I still prefer Dermalogica's Ultracalming Cleanser as it helps with redness on my cheeks.

Final verdict: If you are a fan of the original Precleanse Oil, this is a much more travel friendly version of the same great formula. I don't know if you can tell, but my skin actually looks a touch brighter after the second cleanse! Yes, I still had green in certain crevices on my face, but that grease paint was not the easiest to remove. The Precleanse Balm was super gentle on my skin and basically felt like I was using a liquid oil cleanser once I had warmed it up and was massaging my skin. On days that I am not wearing a lot of makeup or no makeup at all, this balm is something I use all on its own. The only thing I'd say that might deter me from purchasing this is perhaps the price as the liquid version of this is only $6 more and is 150mL compared to 90mL, but then again I'd probably pump out more of the liquid in one use than the balm.

And now for the part you have all been waiting for! Dermalogica has generously given me a deluxe travel-sized version ($21 value) complete with baby mitt (see photo below) to gift to one Cosmetic Proof reader!
