I love a good chemical peel for the face and have always toyed with the idea of using peels for my body. I used to use the Philosophy Microdelivery Triple Acid Peel Pads for my face as well as my hands, elbows and knees. Basically the rougher areas of my body, but because these peel pads were so expensive (I believe they are close to $100), I didn't keep up beyond the one pack. Every week or so, I go down the rabbit hole of Korean beauty and about a year ago, I came across a company called Wish Formula that had some veeerrry "skin"-teresting products! I was especially interested in their peels and decided to place an order with Rose Rose Shop for the Body Bubble Peeling Pad as this was kind of a weird product which meant I had to buy it!
There is a facial version as well, but I try to preserve my microbladed eyebrows by avoiding chemical peels that are hard to keep "sectioned" on my face and away from my eyebrows. Essentially, the Bubble Peeling Pad is a squishy sponge with a mesh finish on one side and a smooth finish on the other. This is a "dual peeling system" containing AHAs (lactic acid and glycolic acid), 450mg of Vitamin C (C450) and fermented botanical extracts (celery, cabbage, rice, tomato and turnip!). This system allows anyone to do a professional body peel in the comfort of their own home.
Ingredients: Water, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Ascorbic Acid, Olive Leaf Ferment Filtrate, Peppermint Leaf Ferment Filtrate, Clover Flower Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Poluglutamic Acid, Celery Extract, Cabbage Leaf Extract, Rice Extract, Tomato Fruit Extract, Turnip Leaf Extract, Carrot Root Extract, Broccoli Extract, Arginine, Aloe, DMDM Hydantonin
To start, the sponge is literally soaking in the exfoliating "essence" when you first take it out of the package, so give it a couple of squeezes to get a thick, juicy lather going! Then, start rubbing your entire body with the mesh side! The mesh side feel a little rough, but is not painful in any way. I tend to focus on my elbows, knees and bum (TMI?) because I feel like those are my neglected skin areas and then use the remaining essence on my legs, arms and torso. I do this for about 3 minutes facing away from the shower.
The next step is to flip the sponge over to the softer side with the band, and "pat the vitamins into the skin". This part seems a bit hokey to me, but I guess it sort of matches with the method of pressing serums into the skin with pressure. Then, rinse everything off and you're done!
The lather itself smells kind of citrusey and the AHAs in this essence can sting a bit especially if you have small nicks from a papercut or shaving.
Final verdict: This is intended to be a weekly treatment and because I wanted to try it out for the full month, I picked up a 4 pack for $25 USD from Rose Rose Shop. This was a great deal considering I was about to buy a SINGLE pad for $10 USD from Glow Recipe. So, the million dollar question - did this weird shampoo-like pad do anything for my skin? Oh, TOTALLY. Your skin is so smooth afterwards which was especially evident when I ran my hands over rougher areas like my knees. Body lotion also just gliiiides right on! While this is not a particularly expensive treatment, this is not something I would keep up with every week. I find that my basic physical scrubs do a decent job of keeping my skin soft, but there is nothing like a good chemical peel so this will definitely be one of those "treat"ments (haha) I do maybe once a quarter!
The Wish Formula Bubble Peeling Pad for Body is available at a number of Korean e-tailers, but I like RoseRoseShop!
