I will be honest that I only pay attention to the Pantone colour of the year from December to the end of January and then I'm ready for the reds and pinks of Valentine's Day, but this year I paid extra attention because purple is one of my all-time favourite colours. The purple family gets featured quite a bit on my nails, eyes and lips and even in my hair! I loved having blue and purple hair back in 2016, but dark hair has its limitations when it comes to the shade of purple you can have. When I saw the L'Oreal Colorista Sprays at the London Drugs Event back in the Fall, my first question to the dark haired rep at the booth was "Will this show up in dark hair?" to which he responded by turning his brunette head and showing me the blue that was on the side! At that moment, I knew I had to try these in allll the colours since they wash out in just a day so no need to worry about the commitment!
In total, I have four Colorista shades and though I thought about reviewing all of them together, I think it would be MUCH more fun to do one at a time with a fun makeup look to go with each one! Pink for Valentine's is coming up next, but for now let's talk about the amazing #Purple200*!
This is a one day colour spray that you can use for a balayage, dip dye or highlight effect in your hair. You CAN use it to literally colour your entire head, but be prepared to use up a AT LEAST a whole can depending on the length of your hair. I was initially quite apprehensive about using a product like this because my hair is so damn porous that I was terrified that whatever I sprayed on would be retained for FAR longer than the promised one day, but rest assured that did not happen!
First step to using a product like this, cover yourself and your clothing with a towel! The nozzle is quite targeted so if you spray closely, you will get what looks like a darker purple and then spraying from further away will give you a more a diffused effect.
It kind of felt like coloured hairspray so with that in mind, the more you spray on a certain area, the more crunchy your hair will start to feel so if you would like your hair to have some bounce, try to spray a good 15-20cm away from your hair and then build if you need to. I would also style my hair before spraying this on because like hairspray, it is near impossible to brush through your hair once the spray has dried. I curled my hair beforehand because curls hide any unevenness in colour and TBH balayage dip dye hair honestly look better with curled or tousled hair.
I did my best to do my hair in sections and even though I missed some, I kind of liked how it turned out! I put my hair up in a ponytail after this photo session and it was so much fun looking in the mirror and seeing a fun coloured tail!
Washing this out actually took me two washes because the first time I washed my hair, I was left with a slight silvery cast which looked kind of cool. I don't know if this had something to do with the product or the porosity of my hair, but it was all gone by the second wash. It didn't stain the tub either!
Final verdict: If you have lighter hair, the colour will definitely be more vibrant and I know that being the partial blonde than I am now was helpful at getting to this level of purple. I have ALWAYS wanted lavender hair, but I know it just isn't in the cards for a brunette gal like me, but this spray has at least given me a glimpse into what it wold be like to have such hair. The only thing that was a bit of a challenge was getting a consistent shade level on each section of hair without over spraying so as long as you know that your hair won't feel soft after you are done with this product you will love it because it LOOKS fantastic. With 10 shades, I honestly want to go through the rainbow to see what looks best. I mean, I could be GREEN for March!
