SKINCARE | Maskeraide Let's Face It Purifying Cleansing Stick with Red Beet

OMG guys, I feel like a lot of my Instastories feature the brand MaskerAide and I certainly do not feature this Canadian brand enough on the blog! In fact, I just used the Weather Warrior Sheet Mask during my "get away from the sick husband hotel stay" this past weekend and the smoothness I got in my skin without the use of silicones was amazing. We're not here today to talk about sheet masks though, but we are here to talk skincare because that's our topic of conversation at the CBB this month!

The newest innovation from MaskerAide is the Let's Face It Purifying Cleansing Stick* ($23.00 CDN) which is an oil-to-lather solid cleanser that not only cleanses the skin, but also removes makeup, nourishes and maintains the skin's pH level (I even have litmus proof!) using a blend of beet root, pink clay, rose petals and citrus oil. A stick cleanser is not something I have ever used, but I was definitely game to try it out!

Firstly, the rose gold cap is just pure love in addition to the cute cartoon of a woman on the go because that's what this cleansing stick is all about - convenience in a single step!

The stick itself is bright red, like a beet, and has visible bits of rose petals spread throughout the stick which also occasionally end up on your face! Though it has citrus oil, to me the stick smells more like roses, but is only perceptible if you sniff very closely.

You can use the cleansing stick two ways - first by wetting your face and rubbing the stick all over the skin, including the eyes, or by simply wetting the stick and rubbing it all over your face. I much preferred splashing water on my face first as I kept having to "rehydrate" the stick if I just wet it alone.

Once enough cleanser is on your skin, massage in small circles to form a light lather. In the photo above, I have foundation on my hand. One of my concerns was "cleaning the cleanser" after use and MaskerAide said just to rinse it off with water and let the stick dry. When you think about it, this is the same as a bar of soap so once you rinse off the emulsified oils and dirt from the stick, it is clean and ready to use again!

I put this cleansing stick through basic tinted moisturizer and a full day's worth of locked in work makeup and it did a great job at removing most of it! I only say "most" because I had waterproof eye makeup on and had to go in with a cotton swab to fully remove my mascara. My actual foundation was completely gone and the best part was that even after such a thorough clean, my skin didn't feel squeaky and dry. And that claim about keeping pH levels balanced? My litmus paper tests around a 5-6 which is right where normal skin is at 5.5!

Final verdict: This is my lazy girl cleanser for sure. There is something soothingly ritualistic about pumping something out of a bottle or wiping away makeup with a cotton pad, but when I think about how I can travel with this baby without having to worry about liquid limitations or bringing a second cleanser, I realize a stick cleanser has a place in my life! This has so many oils in it that I feel like I am getting an oil cleanse with the detox properties of pink clay and I'm also being environmentally friendly by not wasting cotton pads! I did not think Let's Face It would remove the makeup it did and to have it safe to use on my eye area was really a bonus!
