SHEET MASK | 15Twenty The Royal Treatment Collection

I was not expecting to be away from here for the entire week! I went back to work this past Tuesday after a lovely 2 week staycation which was so nice to have. With a new kitten in the house, it was good to be around for her and to monitor how things progressed with Harper and Hugo which as of right now are fairly good with a few little fights here and there. Harper is small, but she has definitely helped with mourning Hemingway as they are similar, but also very different so I feel like we see a little part of him everyday. Now, I had fully intended on swarming the blog with many many sheet masks posts especially since September's CBB theme is "Masks", but now that my body is remembering how tiring work is, I think I will be back to my normal snail pace starting with a series of masks that I started using back in May from a brand called 15Twenty Beauty

Why is it called 15Twenty? I felt a little stupid asking the question, but once I got the answer, it seemed like a no brainer. It represents the amount of TIME a sheet mask is on the face at 15-20 minutes! Though these masks can be purchased individually, the idea of purchasing in weekly "doses" is to create a "mask schedule" if you want to start a masking routine, but need a bit of guidance. Personally, it comes as no surprise that I am someone who creates her mask schedule in advance and believe it or not, each of my masks is chosen for a reason and I will put two detoxifying or intensely moisturizing masks next to each other because that will just kill my skin. With the biocellulose Royal Treatment Collection, the schedule is similar in that the masks are spread out because the effects of biocellulose last more than 24 hours.

Each weekly routine ($24 USD) comes with: one antioxidant mask, one anti-aging mask and one moisturizing mask. 15Twenty's biocellulose is fairly sturdy and retains up to 200x its dry weight in water allowing it to stay moist for the 40 minute time allotment and beyond!

You will notice the masks are numbered and when the little book is opened, you will see an actual mask schedule laid out for you depending on the day you wish to start. Since biocellulose masks are extremely hydrating, 15Twenty recommends leaving two days in between masking for optimal results. I tend to agree with this as I find the effects generally longer lasting than conventional sheet masks.

The Antioxidant Mask starts off the mask routine with a bit of a detox although when I look at the ingredients list, the preservative phenoxyethanol is found in a higher concentration than the three key  featured ingredients which always makes me question efficacy a bit. Niacinamide and hyaluronic acid are found near the top of the list and before phenoxyethanol so at least the brightening and hydration part of the mask is decent. This trend continued with the other two masks. This mask had a slightly tacky finish upon removal.

Anti-Aging Mask*

The Anti-Aging Mask is all about bringing skin back to life with more antioxidant action as well as evening out skin tone. This mask does have silicones in its essence which meant that upon removal, my skin barely had any tackiness and felt smooth fairly quickly. The silicones were also in higher amounts than the featured ingredients which I always feel a bit iffy about because I really wonder how much of the "good stuff" is going into my skin since the dimethicone molecular size is so much larger. The mask was still nice to wear and my skin was indeed hydrated because moisture was sealed in.

Moisturizing Mask*

The Moisturizing Mask incorporates shea butter to soothe and protect skin while macadamia seed oil acts to soften the skin. I also liked the addition of pearl extract which supposedly stimulates collagen synthesis which we ALL should love! Again, dimethicone is found in a higher concentration than the featured ingredients along with phenoxyethanol so while my skin was very hydrated and soft afterwards, I'm just not sure how much of the featured ingredients my skin is actually getting. In terms of results,  I did not see too much of a difference between this mask and the Anti-Aging one.

Final verdict: You all know how I feel about dimethicone in my skincare and I do try to avoid it if I can, but I do make the occasional exception. 15Twenty has some amazing packaging and I love the idea of scheduled masking to get people excited about their skincare routines, but I was hoping to see a higher concentration of the plant-based ingredients in their ingredients list and a lower concentration of preservatives though I understand that preservatives need to be there in higher concentrations for more plant-based products. I did really love the fit of the masks and the philosophy behind the brand, but with the number of masks I have, I don't know if I would purchase these on my own solely because of the dimethicone factor.
