MAKEUP LOOK | Shu Uemura Vision of Beauty Collection Vol. 2 #HauteStreet Warm x Vibrant Eye Shadow Palette Review & Swatches

At this time last year, I was revelling in the forwardness of Shu Uemura’s Vision of Beauty Vol. 1 Brave Beauty collection (here) for a Fall release. I had never seen a Fall makeup collection that had so much colour and now I think I may have spoken too soon! Shu has now released the Vision of Beauty Vol. 2 Haute Street collection and it is filled with easy neutrals and incredible bursts of colour. Designed by Shu Uemura’s International Artistic Director, Uchiide, the Haute Street collection is inspired by the rawness and vibrancy street artists give to concrete cityscapes. Just like Brave Beauty, Haute Street is a means of visual expression, but in the grittier landscape of a modern city so let’s get wild shall we?

Eye shadow palettes are always my favourite thing to start with when it comes to reviewing new collections. I love lip and cheek products too, but the eyes really are where you can spend a heck of a lot of time being creative and trying new things. When it comes to a makeup look, I can often spend close to 20 minutes (maybe even more if I attempt to apply false lashes) on just my eyes so even though they take the most amount of work, I find the results the MOST rewarding when all is said and done. I LOVE the looks of both Haute Street palettes, but for today I was leaning towards the Warm x Vibrant Palette* ($90 CDN), specifically those awesome shimmery pink and red shades!

The palette’s graffiti design is a collaboration between Uchiide and artist Oyama Enrico Isamu Letter and if you look closely, you can spot the letters “S”, “H” and “U” hidden in the design!

A mixture of two matte and 4 shimmery shades, E8 – E12 swatched quite nicely without any primer while E7 and E12 needed a couple of passes for the pigmentation to pop.

Face:

Shu Uemura Lightbulb Foundation 764 Medium Light Beige*

Brows:

Dior Diorshow Brow Styler in 002 Universal Dark Brown*
Dior Diorshow Brow Styler Gel in 003 Brown*

Eyes:

Apply primer all over the lid followed by the shade E10 on the inner third of the eyelid.

Take the Shu Uemura Dual Ended Eye Color Pencil in Warm x Vibrant* and using the pink side, lightly draw a curve that follows your eye socket as well as into the inner corners. Use a fluffy brush to soften the line and blend with E10.

Using a fluffy brush, add E12 to outer third of the lid making sure to leave the center of the lid empty. Blend E12 outward and into a “V”. Pat  E11 onto the center of the lid. Fingers work best as this shade can be a bit sheer with a brush. Using a smudgebrush, repeat same colours on lower lash line in patting motions to reduce fallout.

Line the lower waterline with Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil in ME12*.

Apply Shu Uemura Petal Lash Mascara* and add your favourite crazy lashes. I am using ones from Illamasqua (doesn’t have a name on the box!)

Cheeks:

Shu Uemura Tint in Gelato Lip and Cheek Color in Urban Coral* applied in patting motions with fingers and blending. I have mentioned before how much I adore these as cheek and lip colours! The application is so smooth!

Lips:

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in City Neon* (top lip)
Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in Avenue Sunset* (bottom lip)

Final verdict: I freakin’ love this collection. I love that this palette has neutrals on one side and then gets “wild” on the other. I adore the shimmery pink of E10 and the who can say no to the orange-red of E11?! I was tempted to cover my entire lid with it! Seeing as how this palette is priced luxuriously, if you don’t see yourself using the shimmery brights I wouldn’t spend the money. However, if you are ready to try something new, Haute Street might be your ticket to exploration!

Haute Street is limited edition and is now available at select Hudson’s Bay, Sephora locations and www.shuuemura.ca
