When it comes to skincare, Asia is always 10 steps ahead than the North American market. During my stint in the skincare world, I rarely would come across an Asian client who didn't already have a fairly rigourous skincare routine. Being Asian myself, I can tell you that I take it all very seriously and I am curious to see whether any of this pays off in the next 10 years!
I am not one to rush skincare reviews, but there is a promo going on for the renowned Dr. Wu this Thanksgiving long weekend that you should ALL definitely take advantage of so let's DO this first impressions review!
Dr. Wu is a new brand to me and after reading some reviews and visiting the Dr. Wu website, I was greatly comforted in knowing that Dr. Wu IS an actual dermatologist with an M.D. who teaches at the National Taiwan University Hospital and well-known in Asia for laser treatments and cosmetic surgery. Of course, all of these accolades mean nothing if the ingredients and results of the products aren't solid. Lucky for us in BC, AB and ON, the beauty division of T&T Supermarket now carries Dr. Wu and I delighted to share with you my initial thoughts of the limited edition Dr. Wu Hyalucomplex Hydrating System* ($79.99 CDN on sale NOW for $49.99 CDN)!
I can't read Chinese so thank goodness the website has this exact diagram (here) in English, but the Hyalucomplex Hydrating line features hyaluronic acid as its star ingredient in the form of something called the "Hyalu-Complex". Targeted for sensitive and dehydrated skin, HyaluComplex exhibits high water-binding properties easily absorbed by the skin and facilitates long-lasting hydration while reducing dry patches on the skin (we've all had them!).
The Intensive Hydrating Toner (150mL/$30.99 CDN) is used as both a cleanser and toner and is alcohol-free. What I did like is that the hyaluronic acid (sodiu hyaluronate) is in the top half of the ingredients which I take as a relatively good sign in the world of skincare. The consistency is a viscous liquid and was most easily applied with a cotton pad.
The Intensive Hydrating Serum (15mL/$34.99 CDN) is an oil-free serum that absorbed right away into my skin. It is not enough as a moisturizer though and those with normal-dry skin will want a dose of oil for their next step!
The Extra Hydrating Lotion with Aqua Collage (50mL/$34.99 CDN) contains the amazing squalane (ingredient #2) which occurs naturally in our bodies and prevents moisture loss at the epidermal level. There is also of course, collagen which we have all come to know and love as our skin saviour when it comes to restoring youth, plumpness and hydration. This is quite hydrating and will last you the whole day without your skin feeling tight.
I look forward to using these products over the next couple of weeks so that I can give you all a more comprehensive review, but this limited edition set will only be available at T&T from now until Oct. 15th and at $49.99 for all full-sized products, this is too good of a value to pass up!
Available at T&T Supermarkets now.
