SKINCARE | Welcome Certified Organic Odylique Skincare to North America! (Plus a Positively Glowing Review!)

The quest for good skincare is never ending and in the last 2 years, my awareness for what REALLY is "natural skincare" has been at its peak with so many companies saying what we want to hear. For those of you that may not know, I took my love of skincare to career proportions when I dove into the beauty industry headfirst last year and eventually ended up becoming a rep for a well-known truly natural skincare line (I am no longer in the beauty biz, but that story will have to come later). I have never been the average skincare consumer and even though I repped one brand, I made sure I knew about all of the others. I used that biology degree to decipher, decode and determine what made GOOD skincare. I am not a green beauty snob and could never exclusively use only natural products, but what I do know is that since last year, when I started using at least ONE natural product in my routine, my skin stopped breaking out even during that time of the month. I kid you not, I have had TWO pimples in the past year.

I came across Odylique in my skin travels online and oohed and aahed at how I wouldn’t be able to find it here in Vancouver, but would have to admire this mother-daughter built brand from afar until…ITS ONLINE LAUNCH IN NORTH AMERICA! Based in Suffolk, England where all products are still made in their own factory and not outsourced. Big fan right here of this! Formulated in particular for sensitive skin, Odylique has won countless organic and natural beauty accolades for their natural, yet effective skincare products. This isn’t your typical shea butter and coconut oil skincare regime. Odylique not only has your skincare basics like cleanser, toner and moisturizer covered, but antioxidant serums too! I know that I can talk all day about skincare (which is why my reviews take FOREVER to come to you guys!), but all I will say for now is that loved Odylique so much that I reviewed it for an extra week  because I didn’t want to stop using any of the products just yet!

Creamy Coconut Cleanser (30mL/$14.00)

Feels like a creamy, light moisturizer and smells almost savoury perhaps due to the presence of extra virgin olive oil? I seriously envision salad whenever I put this on my face. There are virtually no preservatives in this so once opened this will last about 4 months. This also does a decent job of cleansing without stripping of moisture and is even gentle enough to be used to remove eye makeup! (Edited Oct. 16th after speaking to Odylique)

Ingredients: Aqua, Cocos nucifera oil*, Olea europaea fruit oil*, Rosa centifolia flower water*, Glycerine**, Cetearyl alcohol, Cetearyl glucoside, Rosmarinus officinalis leaf extract*, Citrus limon peel oil*, Eucalyptus globulus leaf oil*, Salvia sclarea oil*, Lactic acid, Sodium anisate, Sodium levulinate, Sodium lauroyl lactylate, Xanthan gum, limonene* (in the lemon oil)

Plain English (from Odylique website): Coconut oil*, Extra virgin olive oil*, Rose flower water*, Non-palm plant glycerine**, Rosemary extract*, Essential oils of Clary sage*, Eucalyptus* and Lemon*, Plant origin moisturisers & emulsifiers

*Organically grown & produced ** Organic origin (total 87%)

Calming Rose Super Tonic (50mL/$29.00)

I am devouring this stuff! I love it! It is very soothing and I cannot wait to spritz this all over my face once I am finished cleansing. The bottle is glass and the “plunger” has a slight dip to it so a finger fits perfectly!Although the ingredients mention alcohol, Odylique makes a note that this was not added, but is a small amount originating from sugar cane. This also smells faintly of roses (as it should) and brought my dry skin immediate relief when I spritzed it on freshly cleansed skin.

Ingredients: Rosa centifolia flower water*, Calendula officinalis flower extract*, Alcohol*, Rosa damascena flower oil*

Superfruit Concentrate (30mL/$60.00)

This can be treated like a serum or face oil and is a blend of rosehip oil, sea buckthorn and pomegranate. From that description alone, we know that this is a potent concoction filld with antioxidants and omega fatty acids. The scent is not the greatest because sea buckthorn makes everything smell very "apothecary-like", but don't be scared of how orange this is! This is the only serum/face oil I have used that can be used as a glowing pick me up after a rough night on top of moisturizer if needed. Your skin will actually look almost sunkissed once this concentrate is smoothed over the skin. The consistency resembles a thick, dry oil that is non-greasy and for drier skin types, can make foundation look less flaky.

Ingredients: Persea gratissima fruit oil*, Simmondsia chinensis seed oil*, Rosa canina fruit extract*, Punica granatum seed extract*, Hippophae rhamnoides fruit extract*, Rosmarinus officinalis extract*

Plain English: Cold-pressed avocado oil*, Jojoba oil*, Concentrated extracts of Pomegranate*, Rosehip*, Rosemary* and Sea buckthorn fruit*

*Organically grown/produced (100% of product)

Timeless Rose Moisturizer (50mL/$48.00)

This is a moisturizer that takes no time at all to absorb into the skin, smells lightly of roses and is a hydrating blend of sea buckthorn oil, shea butter, jojoba oil, coconut oil and my favourite - rose water. With so many hydrating ingredients, this moisturizer feels surprisingly lightweight, but is incredibly hydrating without overloading my skin. Combined with the Superfruit Concentrate, my skin never needed another dose of hydration all day and probably could have pushed the 24 hour limit, but let's face it, most of us wash our faces within that time frame. This combination would be amazing on a long flight!

Ingredients: Aqua, Rosa centifolia flower water*, Simondsia chinensis seed oil*, Cocos nucifera oil*, Butryospermum parkii butter*, Helianthus annuus seed oil*, Glycerine**, Cetearyl alcohol, Hippophae rhamnoides fruit extract*, Cetearyl glucoside, Aloe barbadensis leaf juice powder*, Rosa rubignosa fruit extract*, Rosmarinus officinalis leaf extract*, Pelargonium graveolens oil*, Rosa damascena flower oil*, Lactic acid, Sodium anisate, Sodium levulinate, Sodium lauroyl lactylate, Xanthan gum, geraniol * & eugenol* (in the essential oils)

Plain English: Aloe vera juice*, Rose flower water*, Jojoba oil*, Coconut oil*, Raw Fairtrade shea butter*, Cold-pressed sunflower oil*, Concentrated extracts of Rosehip*, Rosemary* and Sea buckthorn*, Non-palm plant glycerine**, Essential oils of Geranium* and Rose*, Plant origin moisturisers & emulsifiers

*Organically grown & produced **Organic origin (total 94.14%)

Final verdict: Overall, I am VERY pleased with Odylique as a natural line. It is incredibly affordable and the number of ingredients that are plant-based in origin is wonderful. I am someone that does like a good chemical exfoliation now and again so I would want to pair these products off with something on the more aggressive side. My skin was very happy with the products here and for those with sensitive skin, tree nut oil, wheat, soy or dairy allergies or are vegan and/or pregnant, Odylique should be a company to consider.
