Arbonne is the latest direct marketing company to storm the beauty world with its main appeal being vegan and more botanical-based products. I first heard of Arbonne in 2011 when my mom won a spa party with an Arbonne consultant who actually didn't do a great job of telling me what set Arbonne apart from the rest. The consultant gave me a few body products and though they were nice, I never gave them much thought after I'd used them. Thank goodness for my fellow CBBer Chantal who sent along some of her favourite Arbonne makeup products for me to put together (hopefully) something pretty!

In this current cosmetics world of green beauty, in makes sense that Arbonne would fill the "natural niche" in the direct marketing arena. All Arbonne products are formulated without: talc, tallow, carbon black, animal products or by-products, parabens, formaldehyde-donating preservatives, phthalates, formaldehyde, alkylphenols, benzene, monoethanolamine, triclosan, synthetic dyes, hydroquinone, artificial sweeteners, artificial flavors, cholesterol, trans fats and mineral oil. Quite the list, eh? I am definitely liking the no phthalates and hydroquinone (still allowed in the US!). You can read more about Arbonne's Ingredient Policy here.

For today's look, the focus was on lookin' good and in no time at all! Starting off with an Arbonne favourite, Smoothed Over Lipstick in Poppy* ($34.00 CDN) is a bright coral/red that will brighten up ANY look. It also smells amazing - like no other product I have ever smelled! The scent is tart and fruity almost like a papaya and with a creamy mango butter-based formula. Lips are left with a satin finish that you will need to anchor with a lipliner or with powder foundation as the colour does migrate.

This Arbonne Blush in Taffeta* (4.5g/$36.00 CDN) looks scarily bright pink in the pan and even the swatch below, but it actually blends beautifully! The finish is soft and matte and while it isn't the most buttery blush I have used, the colour is decently pigmented. You cannot go wrong with this shade as the mineral pigments allow for much blending if you prefer a more neutral look. You will see in the look that when blended, Taffeta starts looking more and more like a natural flush.

I don't normally go quite this neutral when it comes to eyeshadow, but Sand*(2.2g/$27.00 CDN) is a completely matte taupe shade that gives my eyelids a flat base for either adding other more dramatic shadows or for making it look like it's "my eyes, but better". Texture for this particular shade was buttery, smooth and pigmented. If this neutral applies this beautifully, what about a more shimmery or darker shade? Must. Know. Now!

This eyeliner...if there is one thing Arbonne should redo it's the Liquid Eyeliner in Black* ($29.00 CDN) not because the formula isn't any good, because it is a wonderfully pigmented matte black that holds well on the eyelid throughout the day. What I found incredibly difficult to use was the brush itself. The tip is spongey and flexible, but is not precise by any means. If a thin line is what you hope to achieve with this liner, a thin line is not what you will get. Chantal did give me a tip that made this liner more to my liking and that was to use an angled liner brush instead. Yes, it worked, but there are plenty of liquid eyeliners out there for the same price or less that have the precision built right in. Sorry, eyeliner!

Final verdict: The very first thing that I noticed about Arbonne products before even trying them was the price. It is a fairly luxurious price point that rivals some big high end brands. There is something to be said for the actual ingredients though so while I cannot completely justify the pricing, after my experience with the colour side of Arbonne (there is a TON of skincare and even nutrition), I am definitely interested in trying more. Especially the lipsticks and eyeshadows. Poppy has so much POW that even though you need to do a little bit of extra prep to keep the colour from moving around, it is really flattering on everyone. I have a co-worker who is white like porcelain who wears this shade too and it suits us both! Overall, I am fairly impressed (so far) with the quality of Arbonne's cosmetics and even though packaging may not be too fancy, the actual product is worth trying!
