MAKEUP LOOK | Dior Glowing Gardens 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette in #451 Rose Garden Review & Swatches

I absolutely adore Spring collections because we finally move on from the dramatic shades of Fall and Winter to bright, happy shades of flowers and new beginnings. The only issue I often run into is that pastels tend to dominate Spring collections and while I can still have my fun with nail polish, eyeshadows are often a loss for me and I am left to admire them in the palette.

The Dior Glowing Gardens collection is what you would imagine Spring to look like with every shade of flower represented. When I received the Rose Garden 5 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette* ($70.00 CDN) I adored its floral print and colours, but was not sure how they would translate to my skintone. That still did not stop me from admiring the prettiness that is this palette!

The swatches surprised me. A few years ago, I purchased a limited edition Dior spring eyeshadow palette that looked so beautiful in the packaging (post), but really lacked in colour payoff when it came to actual swatching. To this day, it is still my most unique looking palette in terms of colours, but I do not wear it often. I thought Rose Garden was going to be a repeat, but I was wrong! The swatches were done without primer and they were surprisingly pigmented! The light green was the worst performing of the group, but the browns and especially the yellow packed way more of punch than I thought they would.

I had no idea what I would do with the colours in this palette so I basically tried to emulate the Dior marketing photos (here) for Glowing Gardens which had a very similar use of colours with the green shadow on the eyebrows. Crazy, but I didn't want to do something that only involved the two brown shades and highlighter because THAT would be too safe wouldn't it?!

Apply the yellow shade to inner corners of eyes.
Line lower lash line with Diorshow Proliner in #092 Black*.
Apply Diorshow Mascara in #090 Pro Black*.
Line upper lashline with liquid liner like KVD Tattoo Liner in Trooper.
Apply green shadow to outer half of eyebrows.

Final verdict: I am far more impressed by this palette than I thought I would be. Though I wish the floral pattern lasted a bit longer (it started to disappear once I started swatching), it is gorgeous to look at, but realistically I probably won't want to wear green and yellow on a routine basis.
I think this is a palette for the devout Dior collector.

The Glowing Gardens Collection will be available until the end of March at The Bay, Sephora and select Shoppers Drug Mart Boutiques.
