MAKEUP | Dior Splendor Holiday Collection Review with a Smoky Eyed FOTD

Before we get to how I got to have glittery purple lips, it all started with a fun Thursday afternoon with the Dior Splendor holiday collection! I don't really get a lot of time at home and the one thing I hate is rushing to play with collections for the sake of pumping out a review. Instead, I started my day with a Nespresso coffee, wrote a blog post and answered some emails. Sounds mundane, but I really relish days like that. If I had my way, I would work my day job 3-4 days a week and blog the rest of the week. I would be in HEAVEN.

I don't have all of the pieces of the Splendor collection and I tried to purchase a couple of pieces only to find that the shades were sold out! It just goes to show how popular they were! I still have some beautiful products to share with you and in true Dior fashion, each one is truly a collector's piece when it comes to packaging and droolworthiness.

The Splendor Collection is inspired by the artistry of Dior ateliers with sparkling sequins and colour palettes of rich hues accented with holiday golds.

There are four polishes in this year's collection: Nova*, Golden, Splendor and Cosmic* ($34.00CDN each) with Nova and Cosmic being a bit of surprise for me to see as this is the first time I have seen Dior do a flakie polish! If you would like to see how Nova looks in a manicure, check out my last nail art post (here)!

This year's Diorific Matte Lipsticks come in five shades: Charm, Ravissement, Fascination*, Splendor and Golden*($46.00 CDN) and though I wish I had a couple other shades to share with you, the dark purple of Fascination fits with the lipsticks I have been wearing recently and Golden, though not the most wearable shade for me, was one of the more interesting shades as it can be used alone or as a lipstick topper.

Fascination was VERY creamy and more of a satin matte than true matte in finish, making this feel velvety and comfortable to wear. Golden was less creamy in texture, but still had a very festive finish.

This is the eyeshadow palette that has been all over Instagram for the last two months! You can see why! The Precious Embroidery 5 Couleurs Palette* ($73.00 CDN) is truly a work of art! There is also a second palette in the shade Smoky Sequins which has more grey shades and is also stunning! The sequin embossing is just beautiful though one use of this palette and it will all disappear. Ah, such is life. All the shades swatched nicely and though I found the palette fairly neutral in its shade choices, I could definitely see myself using each and every shade for both day and night.

One product that I did not think I would enjoy as much as I did was the Diorshow Mono Fusion Eye Shadow in 751 Infinity* ($40.00 CDN). This is one of those super cushiony cream to powder eyeshadows that when applied with fingers gives an all over shimmer of colour and when applied with the specially included sponge applicator, gives a fairly pigmented streak of colour that can even be used to line the lash line.

Since this was a more neutral palette, I wanted to spruce up the purple aspect of this look so I added some glitter from Lit Cosmetics to my lower lash line to give a bit of contrast. I love purple and brown together and wanted to add glitter in a way that could even be worn to work! I wore this exact look today without a hitch!

Final verdict: If I could collect ONLY holiday editions then that's what I would do! Maybe the shades are a little more tame than the previous Spring and Summer collections, but there is a certain air of sophistication with Splendor. It sounds grand and the colour palette in this collection certainly reflect this. I was missing the Matte Fluid Cheeks & Lips and though I got to swatch a few shades in Sephora, I think those are definitely worth picking up in addition to the eyeshadow palettes and nail polishes since I'm such a polish whore. No, the bottles don't fit my boxes but who the hell cares when they look that gorgeous?!
