The mask I was really itching to try was the Glow Sheet Mask as I have yet to see a mask with AHAs in it let alone glycolic acid which is one of the more aggressive ones. Someone had asked me once why there aren't any "exfoliating sheet masks" and when you think about how long a cotton/hydrogel/biocellulose sheet has to be soaking in essence until used, that essence cannot have a very acidic/low pH or else there would be no sheet or possibly packaging left!
This Glow Sheet Mask claims to provide instant brightening and hydration using an essence of glycolic acid to brighten and exfoliate and plant extracts like ginseng, aloe and cucumber to further improve the appearance of the skin with soothing and anti-aging properties. Looking at the ingredients list, there are quite a number of really nice things in the essence including a number of plant extracts like Job's Tears and Centella asiatica extracts often found in Korean skincare. No silicones and parabens either so this is looking like a solid set of ingredients for a mask that works out to under $5. Not bad at all!
Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Dipropylene Glycol, Glycerin, Glycolic Acid, Red Ginseng Extract, Aloe Arborescens Leaf Extract, Panax Ginseng Callus Culture Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract, Castanea Sativa (Chestnut) Seed Extract, Dioscorea Japonica Root Extract, Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Seed Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Morus Alba Bark Extract, Asiaticoside (extracted from Centella asiatica), Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-yuen Seed Extract (Job's Tears), Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Trehalose, 1,2-Hexanediol, Propanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum, Butylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA
Thanks to Anna at @maskaddict, she reminded me that I had litmus paper so I tested the essence of this mask and low and behold it's actually fairly mild at a pH of about 6. I had mentioned in my IG stories that my face felt totally fine, but my hand had stung when I applied some leftover essence on it. Turns out, there was a cat scratch that was coming through so THAT'S why things were stinging!
Mask Summary:
Scent: None
Duration: 15 minutes
Thickness: Thin
Mask Fit: Good with the exception of downward slanting eyes
Essence: Watery
Tackiness: Zero
Hydration: Medium. I felt the need for an eye cream.
Final verdict: The fit of the mask as well as the thinness was very reminiscent of Asian sheet masks and was done well. Though the shape of the eye holes was a bit strange, it wasn't enough to bother me. In terms of results after removing the mask? Perhaps my skin was a touch brighter, but not to the extent of when I use an actual chemical or physical exfoliant. When I use a dedicated treatment for exfoliation, I definitely see a more dramatic difference in my skin. Would I use this mask again or purchase it myself? I would because one, I like the ingredients and two, this is probably a good maintenance mask for when I'm not actively exfoliating and my skin felt fairly refreshed afterwards.
Next up is the Plump Collagen Boost Youth Infusion Sheet Mask* which claims to provide an instant plumping and smoothing effect with an essence containing peptides, botanical collagen and omega oils.
While I am also liking the ingredients with hyaluronic acid, peptides and mushroom extract all appearing in the first half of the ingredients list, I cannot figure out which ingredient refers to the "botanical collagen". I am assuming it is in one of the plant extracts in this list, but I have gone through all of the ones in the first half of the list with no luck.
Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Glycereth-26, Dipropylene Glycol, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Copper Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Red Ginseng Extract, Aloe Arborescens Leaf Extract, Morus Alba Bark Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-yuen Seed Extract (Job's Tears), Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Extract, Tremella Fuciformis (Mushroom) Extract, Paeonia Lactiflora Root Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Polygonum Multiflorum Root Extract, Phellinus Linteus Extract, Morus Alba Bark Extract, Sophora Flavescens Root Extract, Cimicifuga Racemosa Root Extract, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Extract, Angelica Gigas Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Adenosine, Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Xanthan Gum, Polysorbate 80, Glyceryl Stearate, Betaine, Ethyl Hexanediol, Propanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Disodium EDTA
The fit of this mask seemed better than that of the Glow Mask, but I suspect the type of essence assisted in super form-fitting adherence. This mask had a cream essence which seemed to act like a better "glue" so especially with the chin area, I felt very "secure" with everything feeling like it was being sucked in.
Mask Summary:
Scent: None
Duration: 15 minutes
Thickness: Thin
Mask Fit: Good
Essence: Creamy
Tackiness: Light
Hydration: Good
Final verdict: With this mask, there was a definite difference in my skin feeling and looking quite plump. I did not feel the need for moisturizer, but I did seal everything in with a light facial oil after the essence had been absorbed. For the ingredients, price and fit, I would definitely buy this mask on my own!
Are you just as excited as I am that Pixi now has their own sheet masks? I cannot WAIT to see what else they come out with because ingredients like glycolic acid and peptides are hard to find in sheet masks that aren't more than $10 each so having this drugstore option is fantastic!
