June is Indigenous History Month with today, June 21st being National Indigenous Peoples Day so what better way to mark this day than with a review about the new(ish) Cheekbone Beauty SUSTAIN Eyeshadow Pencils! 

I love this company and have featured them heavily on Cosmetic Proof in the past mainly for their awesome liquid lipsticks (here), but now they have expanded to other areas of the face! Their eyeshadow sticks were something I was VERY excited to try as I am generally a very lazy eyeshadow person and if I can use an eyeshadow stick to cover my whole eyelid, why not?

These pencils have a creamy, vegan formula and is made from wood from FSC certified forests. The pencil formula is super smooth and glides effortlessly with the help of coconut oil which is something I have not seen before in an eye pencil! I even saw one photo where they were able to apply this pencil like a mascara to make someone's eyelashes blue! 

As you can see, I picked up three shades: Honey Calcite, Green Turquoise and Cobalt Blue and had planned on using Honey Calcite as my inner highlight shade and the other two shades as sort of my "coloured smoky eye". Honey Calcite is definitely something that gives you a very subtle shimmer so this is perfect for someone who wants the highlight without the intensity. 

I loved the formula of the pencils, BUT even with eyeshadow primer (Urban Decay Primer Potion), there was maaaajor smudging for me. You can see it in the last photo which is after about 6 hours of wear. This has made it so that I unfortunately cannot wear this for a work day because it just looks like a mess by mid-shift. 

Final verdict: Not gonna lie - I thought that these would be incredibly longwearing like my other chubby eyeshadow sticks, but I think the coconut oil and my eyelids just don't get along. The formula is so pleasantly creamy that I feel like I will need to find some way to wear these (maybe on top of eyeshadow?). I love the shades and how they don't tug at all on my lids so while I would still recommend these, these weren't quite what I was expecting for my eyes and makeup routine.
