Simon & Tom | Soft Peeling Gel (The Peeling Part is Oddly Fun)

Exfoliation. I love it mostly in scrub form, but I can never say no to knowing that dead skin cells are being sloughed away all thanks to my rigorous skincare routine (*pat on the back*). Exfoliating is an incredibly important part of skincare for ALL skin types because it encourages cell turnover and brings forth fresh epithelial cells. It is especially important in the dry winter season when skin starts to look dull and not so hot. For those interested in a different kind of exfoliation, look to Simon & Tom’s Soft Peeling Gel ($49.00 USD)*. For you skincare junkies or for those who just love experimenting, this is a great product to try and I’m gonna tell you why!

Packaging comes in a large sphere which I actually found somewhat cumbersome. The top unscrews to reveal a clear and firm jelly that smells slightly floral. It actually smells just like EVERY peel-off face mask I have used so there must be a common ingredient.

Prior to application, make sure your face is slightly damp and even though the instructions say to “apply a generous amount”, don’t. The gel is tough to remove and I had to use two rounds of face wash the first time around because only water seemed to make it worse! As soon as the gel hits damp skin, the “peeling” part starts in the form of little white rolly bits composed of dead skin cells and peeling mask. I did not take a picture of this phenomenon, but Jordana did so click to see her pictures and review here!

Use: 2x/weekly

Suitable For: All skin types

The Key Players:

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract: This is a shrub whose leaves are used for tea and are filled with antioxidants.

Aloe Barbadensis Lead Juice: anti-inflammatory agent that soothes irritated/red skin

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil: incredibly rich in Vitamin E

Orange (citrus Aurantium Dulcis) Peel Extract: reduces oiliness

Papaya (carica Papaya) Extract: dissolves dead skin cells

Pomegranate (punica Granatum) Extract: aids in relieving dryness, antioxidant

Cucumber (cucumis Sativus) Fruit Extract: like aloe, calms and soothes irritated skin

INGREDIENTS: Water, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Maris Sal, Aloe Barbadensis Lead Juice, Carbomer Triethanolamine, Decydroacetic Acid, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, nylon-66, phenoxyethanol (fragrance) supplement, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil (Argan Oil), orange (citrus Aurantium Dulcis) Peel Extract, Papaya (carica Papaya) Extract, Pomegranate (punica Granatum) Extract, Cucumber (cucumis Sativus) Fruit Extract, Dunaliella Bardawil Extract, Solanum Lycopersicum Tomato Fruit.

Final Verdict: My advice is to apply this mask before hopping into the shower because it does take some grunt work to remove. The “pilling effect” of this peeling mask is probably what makes this mask feel water-resistant so as long as you use a face wash/cleanser for removal you should be fine. Once the mask was removed, my skin was GLOWING. My pores felt tighter, but not uncomfortably so and when I looked in the mirror, I noticed that the pores around my nose were smaller making the texture of my skin look much more even. I actually said “Oooh”.

For those that have sensitive/mature skin and prefer to avoid the use of physical exfoliators, a peeling gel like this one is a fantastic option. The results I had were identical to what I see when using a weekly physical exfoliating treatment minus the physical scrubbing. I believe the price is fair considering you only need a pinkie tip amount twice a week to achieve results and although removal is a little unpleasant, I would do it again in a heartbeat for such smooth and glowing skin!
