NAILS | Striping Tape Burberry Nail Art #CBBNov

I am a definite romantic when it comes to nail art challenges because I think that I can do it all. I'm obviously crazy, but I couldn't resist when the CBB decided to have a little fun this month for a beauty challenge with themes that can be achieved either through nail art or makeup. Today's theme is "Plaid" which immediately brought to mind a manicure that I have ALWAYS wanted to try - "Burberry Nails"!

Burberry Nail Art

I thought about doing this with straight lines and nail polish, but if there is one thing that stresses me out about nail art it's free-handing straight lines! I have fairly steady hands, but having to do a number of straight lines did not feel like my cuppa tea and with a pattern like the iconic Burberry plaid, it all needed to be perfect! After seeing this pin by nail artist Nails by Cambria, I decided to rely on striping tape for my perfect lines, but that proved to be a challenge as well!

Burberry Nail Art

I started off by painting all of my nails two coats of Butter London - Crumpet. For the white sections, I used two coats of Burberry - Optic White* to paint perpendicular lines. I tried to be as straight as possible, but thankfully a slightly wonky edge can be hidden with tape! Once your polish is semi-dry, start applying your black and red striping tape. I started with the black and ended with red. What took the longest for me was trimming off all the little excess bits of tape. I kid you not, each nail took about 5 minutes to tape!

I should add that I did not top coat after taking my photos as certain top coats can dissolve the colour of the striping tape. However, I am now sitting here with pieces of tape lifting from my nails so I don't know if I will be able to keep this manicure for more than tomorrow even though I just did it last night. I will forever enjoy how this manicure turned out in photos because it's lookin' pretty ugly in real life!
