MAKEUP | Suva Beauty Saffron Collection

This is one of those collections where when I finally took the time to photograph and play I WISHED I had brought it out sooner because the colours, the formula were so glorious it pained me to know that I had been missing out all this time, but as you saw from my palette clean out, I have a tendency to let eyeshadow palettes sit untouched and become wall art. The Suva Beauty Saffron Collection is one inspired by immigrant families. Suva's founder, Shaina Azad, used her Fijian upbringing filled with memories of family gatherings to come up with Hindi-named shades like "Badnam" and "Besharam" as well as a spice-inspired eyeshadow palette.

As someone who came to Canada as an immigrant in 1988, I can most certainly relate to growing up with both Canadian and Chinese values with many occasions where those two ways of thinking collided. My white friends were always "so wild" and "always wanted to go to the mall" and though now I look back and it really wasn't all that bad, I definitely had a few screaming matches in my teenage years. I was generally still a good kid because most immigrant children are born with an ingrained fear of their parents, especially if you were the oldest like me, so good grades and going to university were a given and not a "nice to have". Oh, and wearing makeup? Please. I wore Lipsmackers and blush ONLY from when I was 14 until university. You know that look you get from your parents when you are getting ready and then they catch a glimpse of you just as you are leaving the house? Yeah, I didn't want any comments so none of this blogging or makeup stuff really could have happened while I was still living at home!

If there are two things you need to get from this collection (yes, the second one is coming up!), the first is the Saffron Eye Shadow Palette*! This is a warm-toned palette with four matte and four shimmery eyeshadows that I adore! I don't normally like matte shadows, but these were so blendable and not chalky at all!

My heart always goes towards the shimmery shadows because I am so easily swayed by an entire palette based on how they perform, but even though the SUVA website describes these shadows as "buttery", I wouldn't quite use that term. Buttery is what I would use to describe the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette or anything from Juvia's Place, but while these shimmery shadows ARE soft, they have a slight stickiness to them which seems to lock the pigments in place when I use my brush/fingers to apply. Needless to say, the shimmery shades blew me away.

Moving on to what really is also a fantastic product - the Hydra Liners! This one of Suva Beauty's iconic products and is a water-activated liner. This is not a gel liner and is NOT waterproof, but does have good staying power once it has dried. You will need a brush to apply and what I do is wet my Suva Beauty Six Thirty Brush* with water and then swirl it in the product. You can also scoop out the product and mix with water. There is so much product in one pot that I feel like I could paint my entire face multiple times over and I wouldn't run out of product because it is THAT opaque with a little going a long way. The two chrome shades released for the Saffron Collection are "Bakwas", a coppery red, and "Badmash", a coppery eggplant. Both are beautiful!

I have reviewed and LOVED Suva Beauty's Moisture Matte Liquid Lipsticks and now there are two more to add to their already solid colour collection! "Besharam" is a deep bluish red which I found to be more of a satin than matte finish and seemed more fluid in texture than the second shade "Badnam" which is my new all-time favourite shade and is what I am wearing in these photos. It is literally the colour of my actual lips, but mattified and I love this shade so much I was even super stingy in my arm swatch because I didn't want to waste the product!
