SKINCARE | Lano Face Base Jet Set Trio

The holidays are a great time to try new brands because of the GIFT SETS! With the amount of beauty I have in my possession, minis now work really well for me because now I'm experiencing things going bad before I've even finished them which really sucks. One of the brands that I still think of as relatively new to Sephora is Australian brand Lano. This Sydney-based brand uses an "exclusive ultra medical grade lanolin" (3x more pure than medical grade lanolin) which is a natural wax that comes from sheep's wool. Lanolin keeps their wool dry and protected all year round and is an ultra moisture reservoir. So, fun story, I can attest to this moisture as I helped sheer a sheep when I was a kid (you know Outdoor School) and my hands were so soft after touching the wool! That's because of the lanolin! (Yeah, that's what kids in Canada do. Help sheer sheep as part of a school trip.) Now, while I was more familar with Lano for their Lanolips products, I didn't know that they did skincare until recently when I saw this little travel kit which included a: cleanser, mask and day cream all in these cute little retro-style tubes just screaming to be opened and tried!

Gelcream Glycerin Cleanser*
Lano Face Base Jet Set Trio

Right away, the first thing I will say about all three products is that there is a strong scent. Though these products are stamped with the Sephora Clean Beauty stamp, meaning that any scent is natural as no phthalates are allowed, but it is a strong and creamy scent that emerges. Though the description for this cleanser states that it's a bit like a gel and a bit like a cream, I would almost describe it more as a watery gel. I have to store it upside down or else the product will just keep on comin'! The consistency felt nice enough to use all over the face and across the eyes, but as I use this as a second cleanse, I prefer either a cream or foaming cleanser and just didn't feel this cleanser was special enough to upgrade to a bigger size.

Ingredients: Water, Disodium Laureth Sulphosuccinate, Decyl Glucoside, Glycerin, Acrylates Copolymer, Lauryl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Polyquaternium-7, Betaine, Glycol Stearate, Fragrance (Natural), Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polyquaternium-10, Tetrasodium Edta, Lanolin Oil

The Aussie Flyer Leave-On Recovery Mask*
Lano Face Base Jet Set Trio

This recovery mask is all about bringing back moisture, glow and radiance into the skin with a blend of lanolin, coffee and mint. Caffeine and mint bring a temporary tightness and lift to the skin, but with the mint all the way at the bottom of the ingredients list, this mask isn't as minty as you would think. I actually love having my face tingle from mint, but was a bit disappointed that even with a THICK layer of this stuff, I experienced no tingling. Since this mask has a cream consistency and dries clear, this can be used in place of moisturizer and washed off the next morning. When I first tried it, I left it on for about 15 minutes and when I washed it off I did feel like my skin was hydrated and actually more refreshed so whaddaya know? The consistency was quite thick since this is a blend of intensely hydrating ingredients, but if you are suffering from dry skin, this might be your ticket to hydration. The scent is the only thing that is a turn-off, but it does fade quickly.

Vitamin E Day Cream*
Lano Face Base Jet Set Trio

I thought this moisturizer would have been uncomfortable to wear underneath makeup because of how thick lanolin is, but is actually "blends" into the skin so smoothly you would think there were silicones in the formulation! I have been using this in the mornings WITH two drops of facial oil with no problems which just goes to show how much my skin has been loving the moisture! My ONLY concern with this product is the inclusion of milk powder. I have used this moisturizer on and off for about 2 weeks without any issues, but I am lactose-intolerant and a couple of years ago I had a skin reaction (which never happens!) to an eye cream with milk in it even though it was all the way at the end of the ingredients list. That experience just makes me scared to continue using this moisturizer long-term.

Lano Face Base Jet Set Trio

Final verdict: While I wasn't particularly wowed by the set in particular, I would say that the Recovery Mask and the Day Cream were probably by favourites out of the trio. The strong scent was also a contributing factor to my not wanting to buy full sizes of any of the products and even though this was a fairly minor thing that didn't contribute to performance, there are enough skincare options out there that give me the luxury of choice. This was my first time using a lanolin-based skincare product and while I found the story behind the brand interesting and the packaging very attractive, I prefer the lip products and multipurpose 101 Ointment (Strawberry please!). At this point, I have a good frame of reference for "clean skincare" having tried so much in the last couple of years and we are fortunate now that there are a number of options out there. I wouldn't be opposed to trying from Lano as I love the homegrown story, the fact that the lanolin used comes from Aussie sheep and that I did have some good results after use.
