SKINCARE | Getting to Know KBeauty Brand Purito

Truth be told, when North America started getting on the "clean beauty" bandwagon and declaring products as "paraben-free" and "free of harsh chemicals" (the latter phrase I despise, but for the sake of this post I will use it) this wasn't all that new to the Korean beauty world. Most of the kbeauty products I was using 10 years ago were already paraben-free as well as had a focus on plant-based ingredients like ginseng, cica, rice and other herbs. Purito is exactly this PLUS being 100% EWG green level certified, cruelty-free, using only recycled packaging (not as pretty, but that means more money goes into the actual product) and not having added fragrance which I find HUGE in the world of kbeauty because they really love their scents!

In the last few years, the beauty community has become far more conscious of ingredients in skincare with even the words "natural" and "organic" not being enough thanks to "green washing". Now, there are certifications and stamps of approval from various organizations with a notable one being the EWG or the American activist group, the Environmental Working Group, which a non-profit organization advocating for the removal of "toxins that threaten human health and the environment". The EWG is one that I'm sure will incite much debate and while I am personally not a fan of their scare-mongering tactics, there seem to be many who value their ratings when it comes to what's in their beauty products. I am not going to say whether you should/shouldn't support a brand because they use their certification because to each their own, BUT I have always wanted to try Purito regardless because I liked their aesthetic, pricing, ingredients and was especially curious about their bestselling Centalla Green Level line.

Purito From Green Cleansing Oil Review

This olive oil-based cleansing oil contains six oils to cleanse skin and remove makeup all while keeping the skin's moisture barrier intact and is intended for all skin types. Cleansing oils are a staple for me as I double cleanse daily and I honestly haven't come across a bad cleansing oil. It all just comes down to whether you like the scent and consistency. Some have a thinner consistency which rinses off very easily and others are thick enough that a warm washcloth is required to wipe the oil off your face.

This particular oil cleanser is fragrance-free and rinses off easily with water and becomes milky. It does a good job of removing makeup including waterproof shadow and eyeliner, but had its challenges with the Stila Glitter and Glow shadows as the glitter wouldn't completely rinse off. After rinsing, I was with my skin feeling clean and relatively soft though not as soft as when I use Shu Uemura's Ultim8 Cleansing Oil which is a thicker oil. I would still continue to use this cleansing oil as it did its job, felt nice and is MUCH cheaper than Shu!

Centella Green Leven Safe Sun Sunscreen SPF50 PA+++*
Purito Centella Green Level Safe Sun Sunscreen

Here we go! This is one of my FAVOURITE products to have discovered this year! I have gotten the chance to try out a lot of sunscreen over the years and though I try to use more mineral-based ones, when it comes to texture, chemical sunscreens are still a little better and what makes Purito's Centella Green Level sunscreen a little bit different is the exclusion of popular sunscreen ingredients ethyl-hexyl-methoxycinnamate, oxybenzone and avobenzone which I know can cause some to breakout or have sensitivity. So, if this sunscreen doesn't have those common sunscreen UVA/UVB absorbers, what does it use?

The Purito team had to help me with this one and they told me that this sunscreen uses organic compounds Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (UVA) and Ethylhexyl Triazone (UVB). DHHB has been used in the European Union since 2005 (and we know those guys don't mess around with their beauty ingredients!) and Ethylhexyl Triazone is a new chemical sunscreen that so far has the highest photo stability of all available UVB filters on the market, meaning that it doesn't break down easily when exposed to sunlight. It's also odorless, oil soluble and works with products that are fragrance-free. This ingredient is so new that it has not been approved for use in the US and Canada, but is available worldwide.

Having said all that about these unique sunscreen ingredients, the texture really is VERY nice. It feels like a creamy moisturizer and I almost look forward to using this on top of my skincare and underneath my makeup because it feels so pleasant! It does not pill or take a very long time to settle in and even has ingredients like niacinamide and centella asiatica that make me look less red and even out my skin tone. I didn't even know these ingredients were in there until I looked at the list, but I noticed right away how much better my skin looked after application!

Purito Product Review

Final verdict: I have now become even MORE interested in Purito and look forward to trying even more from the brand especially in their Centella collection. Pricing is fairly reasonable and I do enjoy the ingredients of what I would consider to be "peripheral" products, as they sit on the outside of a skincare routine so I would be curious to know how effective their serums are in conjunction with other products. For now, I am super happy with the products I got to try and that they were as good as I had hoped they would be. I adore this sunscreen and cannot recommend it enough!
