MAKEUP | Avon Cashmere Complexion Longwear Foundation and Concealer

Nothing excites me more now than a fresh bottle of foundation to try out. I didn't always used to be this way with the first foundation review only appearing on Cosmetic Proof in 2013 because that is when I first used foundation EVER! Up until then, it was Asian BB creams or the Pur Minerals 4 in 1 Pressed Mineral Foundation because it was powder and easy to blend. Liquid foundations would freak me out because I was convinced they would be cakey, but over the years I have found that by taking care of the "canvas underneath", most foundations get a fair chance and give me a good idea of how they wear and look throughout the day.

One type of foundation that I have only recently gotten into in the last two years is one with a matte finish which generally tend to be the ones that are extremely longwearing like the new Avon Cashmere Complexion Longwear Foundation* and matching Longwear Concealer*. Both of these arrived right at the beginning of when I went on temporary leave for work and even though I really didn't need to be be wearing a foundation with this staying power during Quarantine, it also seemed like the perfect time to test drive something new that was so major to my regular makeup routine. The worst mistake I have made is trying a new foundation just before having to go to work or an event and possibly dealing with the fallout later!

This is a buildable, full-coverage, matte velvet foundation with "uniquely coated pigments that smooth and hug the skin" for flexible and comfortable wear. The formula also contains optical diffusers that blur imperfections while absorbing oil produced by the skin throughout the day. Interestingly, in addition to the usual foundation ingredients, there is also vitamin E, French Lavender and artichoke extracts to act as antioxidants, but possible skincare benefits aside, this is still primarily a makeup product.

I wore this foundation for almost 3 weeks on and off and enjoyed it! It lasted all day without breaking down around the nose or chin. I had a bit of shine showing through my cheeks, but that could have been heightened with the highlighter I was wearing. I did not experience any oxidation or feel like my skin was being suffocated. The formula felt lightweight and was easy to wear for 10-12 hours. One thing I did discover was that setting this foundation made the finish look a little dry so after first using the MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Finish Powder, I swapped to the Stila In the Buff Powder Spray which was a bit more finely milled and in a smaller amount and the foundation looked better. In my notes below, I only ever used the following two combinations both of which worked quite well.

Cashmere Complexion Diary:

VDL Lumilayer Primer + Cashmere Complexion Longwear Foundation + Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray = no oxidation, a little bit of breakdown around the cheeks, but nothing truly visible

Farsali Unicorn Essence + Cashmere Complexion Longwear Foundation + Stila In the Buff Powder Spray = same as previous combination

The applicator is where some may have issues as I myself prefer a pump, but the applicator wasn't bad and the little reservoir insider held enough product for me to do my whole face as I found that the formula really "stretched" to cover my whole face.

When it comes to concealer, this is one of the few makeup products that I don't really enjoy using. Like contouring, I always felt like concealer was "too much" even though I know it is an essential part of most people's routines.

The few concealers I have used looked cakey and felt heavy so over the years in my collection, I only have three concealers that I actively use and now I have four! All I look for is a lightweight finish that merges well with my foundation and doesn't settle in my wrinkles.  This concealer from Avon does just that and I don't have to do any fancy baking to make it work for me.

Final verdict: I'd say everything held up really well and I will keep wearing both the foundation and concealer in my daily makeup routine. Also, now that I am back at work a longwear foundation will be nice to have as it will need to hold up to a face mask now. I have hopes that I won't start breaking out while wearing face makeup, but we shall see. If anyone is still wearing or planning on wearing longwearing makeup, bookmark these two products as a must-try!
