SHEET MASK | Huxley Secret of Sahara Mask Oil and Extract

My last experience with an oil mask was less than stellar, but that was mianly because I didn't realize that the Sephora mask was a cleansing oil mask as opposed to an oil-in-essence mask which, after using both now, are VERY different! I first heard of the latter mask after seeing a few kbeauty reviews on the brand Huxley, which other than having a very popular skincare line, also has a sheet mask called the Secret of Sahara Mask Oil and Extract. This is a blend of certified organic Sahara prickly pear seed oil and cactus extract that will level up your sheet masking experience especially if your skin is in need of hydration!

Huxley is one of the newer, "minimalist" Korean skincare brands with a focus on plant-based ingredients and a "cleaner" ingredients list which of course is very marketable, but as we all know, cleaner doesn't always mean better. Knowing how Asian skincare has been developed these last couple of decades, I still feel like they stick fairly close to their roots of results and making sure their skincare formulations have ingredients like preservatives and synthetics that are proven to work.

Right away, even the packaging seems super cool with its matte finish, BUT it also makes it extremely hard to photograph and read! This is also one of those masks where you need to *POP* one of the sides to mix the essence so roll from the bottom and the prickly pear oil portion should pop fairly easily. Unlike the other "poppable" masks I have used where the sheet mask is initially dry, this mask is already soaking in cactus extract so we don't have to worry as much about making sure the mask is thoroughly wet. You still want to make sure the oil is really IN there though so massage the packet well!

The mask felt a bit different and more flexible than a conventional sheet mask and that's because it is made of a tighter woven microfibre that is 150x finer than regular sheet mask fibres. This type of mask is intended to feel silkier (yes, it was!) and aid in better essence absorption.

Mask Summary:

Price: $30-$35 CDN for a box of 3
Scent: Like a bouquet of freshly cut flowers
Essence Type: Once the oil is mixed, the essence is actually more like a cream
Duration: 15-20 min
Thickness: Medium, but the fabric is a very fine and flexible microfibre
Mask Fit: Really good!
Tackiness: None
Hydration: Fantastic! My skin looked and felt so soft and supple, plus I had a bit of a glow from the oil essence.
Other notes: I have normal to dry skin, but if you have combination or oily skin, you might find the essence a bit too oily.

Final verdict: I was VERY happy with the outcome of this mask! My skin felt soft and looked so plump and glowy! The essence is oilier than that of conventional sheet mask essences, so normal/dry skin types will really enjoy this mask and it didn't take long for it to absorb into my skin (about 30 min) either. I also had beautiful looking skin the next day so I will DEFINITELY be repurchasing another pack of these sheet masks! They are on the more pricey side when it comes to sheet masks, but in addition to the concept of mixing the oil with the water portion, I was so enamoured with the results of my skin which is ultimately the goal!
