MAKEUP | Mary Kay Intuitive pH Lip Balms

These Intuitive pH Lip Balms arrived as a beautiful care package from the Mary Kay Canada team during the height of Quarantine and I didn't use them that often until I started going out a bit more and just wanted to wear a tinted lip balm underneath my mask. It's funny how you tell yourself that it doesn't matter what you are wearing on your lips if no one is going to see them, but it totally DOES matter to me! I like knowing that my lips look perfectly blushed and pink underneath probably because I don't have the nicest natural lip colour (I am SO pale) and short of lip tattooing (I have considered it, but I am scared of the swelling and healing!), a pH activated lip balm sounded like the perfect way of hydrating my lips while giving them some much needed colour.

These shade-changing lip balms are limited edition and contain "smart, pH-reactive ingredients" to create the perfect shade that suits your lips. I've never been one for these types of products, but what I did like about these lip balms was how soft and smooth they were to apply on the lips and the fact that they kept my lips hydrated for hours. They remained balmy-feeling for quite awhile and I find myself reaching for them on days off at home or just before bed because they feel so soothing.

The shade "Pink" looks almost invisible on my arm, but really comes to life on my lips (see below). The shade "Berry" looks fairly purple on both my arm and lips, but was still very neutral and easy to wear.

The comparison between these lip balms and the Dior Lip Glow lip balms is one that I keep seeing and having reviewed five of them two years ago, I can definitely say that while they are similar, the Mary Kay version is much more balmy and not as waxy in texture. They are also half the price.

I probably wear Pink the most because it's so bare, but one thing to keep in mind with both shades is to be a bit more careful with application. I tend to be pretty cavalier with my lip balm application because it's a clear product, but with the pH colour-adjusting aspect and my pointy cupid's bow, I found that if I got balm outside my lip line, that area of my skin would turn pink as well so it looked like I had "blurry" lip lines.

Final verdict: I liked these lip balms more than I thought I would and now that I am looking at either long-lasting matte lip products or tinted/clear balms to wear underneath face masks and to give my lips a break from longwear lip products, tinted balms like this are perfect. It's amazing how my makeup needs have shifted, but I'm trying to look at it as rediscovering makeup that I haven't used in awhile. My pick would be the "Pink" shade, but if you want a little more of a pop or have a darker skin tone, I think "Berry" would be better.
